While I don't wish to cast aspersions this seems to have more to do with further fueling the victim/human rights industry so beloved of lawyers, since it generates huge amounts of work and gets huge amounts of public money heading their way.
From the CNN interview last night, the pair wanted to put Daesh on trial for their numerous crimes, which is laudable.
But if the UN are still working on crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge, then I don't hold much hope on any developments in the immediate future...
