I take on board what has been said about the actors needing to be relatively "ordinary" looking, in order to lend credibility to scenes. However, I also generally like the performers in a scene to meet certain standards in terms of visual appeal and aesthetics .I do generally prefer the likes of Jamie Gillis and R. Bolla in their purely acting, non-sex sequences. From that perspective, they usually enhanced the quality and "gravitas" of the films which they appeared in.
Randy West was OK in his earlier days, less so later on.
I'm not really qualified to pass judgment on Ron Jeremy, because I haven't seen that much of his work post-1985-ish.
I wouldn't want to single out individuals, but some of the mullets, mustaches and pony-tails sported by porn studs in the 80s and 90s threatened to become a "fly in the ointment", even in scenes featuring stunning ladies.
