Red was a high school pal of Elvis and a long-time member of the Memphis Mafia, serving as Elvis' bodyguard, sparring partner, stuntman in most of those cheesy 60s movies, and song writing collaborator until he (and others) were sacked by Elvis' father about a year before he died. Their near life-long association began when Red saved Elvis from an ass kicking in high school.

He and two others wrote "Elvis, What Happened" an explosive book about the secret life of the King of Rock -n- Roll that was released shortly before he died in 1977. Some say it contributed to his demise.

Afterwards, he found work in television and the movies.. before making a splash in the "Roadhouse" movie, he was the cigar chomping bad ass Marine Corp sergeant on "Black Sheep Squadron"..

RIP, Bob... you were a character
