Trying in vain to steer this away from Max's continued mental health issues... atishoo!!

Have you no smaller independent laptop repair shop nearby, or in the local directory? As for a repair of that nature they'd have no need or reason to even switch your laptop on other than to test the current going through once the new power jack has been soldered in? Having soldered many of them myself for people I know this to be the case. Don't know what part of the world you are, but don't expect to pay more than about £50/$80 for this repair.
