Re the inquisitive intonation: like, you sound like you're asking a question? But you're not really? It seems to be a generational thing. Baby-boomers, like myself, don't seem to use it, it's more Generation-X? So it's probably come out of the mid-80's, maybe from a movie and it might be a Valley Girls thing. Or did they get it from us? An example of someone who uses it a lot of the time is Catherine Freeman, and Greenman's aversion to it might be reflected in the fact that the BBC didn't keep her contract going very long. "How do you think this race will go, Cathy?" " I think she'll run really well?" "What, are you asking me, or f*%$!+g telling me?" Good runner though
