I can't be 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure I found VEF through Google while searching for pictures of either Brigitte Bardot or possibly Raquel Welch. I lurked for a good long while before I joined up. I felt awkward, because I had little to nothing to share. When I discovered that there was a modern section, I was thrilled because I knew I could contribute something there. I had a few hiccups (hiccoughs, to my UK friends) and missteps, but the moderators were friendly and above all helpful. As my confidence grew, I started to search for more and more material to post. Then, one day, I was surprised to see an invitation to join the moderator staff for the Modern Section. So, I guess I didn't screw up too badly over the years.
Since I joined in 2009, I've moved from apartment to townhouse and from one US state to another. I've changed jobs and girlfriends. I've even had my gallbladder removed. The one constant in all that time has been this happy little internet forum where I get to meet and talk to people form all over the world. A little slice of digital heaven, isn't it?
Happy 10th VEF. In the famous words of a sadly departed icon, "Live long and prosper".
Cheers!
