Did you know that the World Cup was won twice by a British team? Back in the early 1900s the cup was created by Sir Thomas Lipton, the tea magnate and he commissioned a World Cup trophy to played for by Italy, Germany, England etc. A little known team was gathered together made up of miners from West Auckland who took part and won it twice. However, it is believed that the more well-known team Woolwich Arsenal should have taken part, but because they had the initials West Auckland were asked instead. I seem to recall this was dramatised by either ITV or Channel 4 starring Dennis Waterman.
