Certainly that was the case when I was at school. You could be sent to the Headmaster for the cane, and teachers regularly batted you round the back of the head for talking, or threw board rubbers - the kind with wooden backs to them - at cheeky pupils.
Getting back to the naughty stuff, an old schoolmate has reminded me of the time when some of the girls
claimed to have secretly held a "commando" day, and gone without knickers. We never quite knew if that was true, or if they were teasing us!
