Roman Censuses were carefully documented and never required any movement to place of birth. The Bethlehem myth was just to satisfy a requirement of an Old Testament Prophecy.
The Gospels were written as recruitment literature for a political religious cult they are not accurate historical records in any sense at all. |
Not to mention that The Acts refer frequently to "James, the brother of Jesus." |
