That was always the thing with buying top shelf mags. Waiting until the newsagents was empty then grabbing your mags and dashing to the counter and wanting to get served as quickly as possible so nobody could see what you were buying.
I remember buying a copy of FHM back in the late nineties in Belfast. Not a top shelf magazine but it did have a woman in a bikini on the cover. It was busy but I didn't think twice about buying it. At the counter the old woman serving me asked in a loud and stern voice if I'd like a bag for my magazine. I replied "No" but she said I'd better have one anyway and she proceeded to put it in a bag. With a line of people behind me in the queue, it was a very embarrassing situation and I almost felt like holding the magazine up and shouting "Look, It's NOT a wank mag!".
