It was revealed that Marty Melcher, Doris's husband had embezzled money, not only from Doris, but from her son Terry
as well as zsa zsa Gabor and Kirk Douglas.
The judge estimated that he had embezzled $66 million from Doris alone.
It seems that Marty Melcher had been a bit of a svengali during those 17 years that he was married to Doris... dictating her film career, negotiating her film deals, embezzling millions of dollars along the way !
Marty died in 1968 aged 52
But for good or ill, there is no doubt that Marty was a huge part of Doris's life.
Her film career over, Doris settled down to life on her 11 acre estate in Carmel, keeping herself busy supporting animal charities.
Over the years there have been reports of people seeing a little old lady stealing through the streets of Carmel after midnight rounding up stray dogs and emaciated cats and putting them in her car........could it be Doris ?
