I have to mention Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI. She married him at 15 even though the King was already showing signs of insanity and would have a complete breakdown and soon retreated into an unresponsive dumb world for several years but she somehow managed to have a child by him (or one of his mates according to rumour)
She then took over the running of the country and stood up to the Duke of York who had designs on the crown effectively starting the wars of the Roses.
She ordered the execution of the Duke after one battle, but in the end lost her own son before being banished back to France.
