Well now, not quite as `bad` as Greenman, ie I did actually pay for my smut.
Although I did always end up buying the local newspaper as well, to hide said Escort/MenOnly etc within, on my speedy departure from shop, averting all eye contact on way!
For me in my testosterone fuelled youth, it was more thrilling if the shopkeeper was a lady of mature years. Somehow it just added to the fantasy aspect.

Also,as I recall(and it still seems so now) that the Asian owned shops always carried a much larger range of titles. One shop I remember had a top-shelf at least 30foot long ,crammed with allsorts of different/unknown porno mags.
