Default How to stop animated GIFs in Chrome , Firefox(pre-FF57) & IE

Seems most solutions stop playing of some but not the loading

About the best method is manually blocking with you ad-blocker because gifs are essentially images - right click area where gif is

The firefox option wasnt upgraded to FF57

Google created its own extension, called Animation Policy, to help Chrome users gain control of GIFs in their browser.

Built as an accessibility extension, Animation Policy allows you to choose between allowing animated images, allowing them just a single occurrence, or disabling them altogether.

Most of the 81 comments are either 5/5 brilliant or 1/5 doesnt work

Tested on Windows 7 pro on Vef
- stopped playing most but not all - loading without playing seems to be occuring
Different types of gifs presumably

As for Microsoft’s browsers, Internet Explorer users can turn off GIFs completely by going to Internet options > Advanced and unchecking Play animations in webpages. Once you restart your PC, Internet Explorer stops playing GIFs.

Edge, Microsoft’s newest browser, currently doesn’t have a way to stop GIFs, but maybe someone will make a browser extension for it in the future.

How to Stop GIFs From Auto-Playing in Your Browser
BY ERIC GRIFFITH 16 JUN 2017, 4:51 A.M.
Hate visiting a Web page and being inundated with animations you didn't want to play? Here's how to stop the GIFs!

firefox , chrome , opera , ie , safari , facebook/twitter

You'd think the same things would work for Microsoft Edge in Windows 10. But you'd be wrong. I couldn't find any easily identifiable option to shut off GIFs.
