Bananarama's Cruel Summer was a hit here but wasn't a hit in the US until it appeared in the soundtrack for The Karate Kid and when in the US they encountered Mike Tyson who preceeded to serenade them with 'Cruel Summer'

Wham's backing singer D.C.Lee had also appeared with Paul Weller in the Style Council and had her own individual hit See the Day.

New Order played LIVE on Top of the Pops but that proved to be a mistake as Stephen Brown(drums and electronic keyboards) played the wrong effects and Gillian Gilbert the only female in the band didn't move at all whilst playing so the camera just lingered on her fingers but even they didn't move much.
