Gagarin: First in Space (2013)

Trailer

On April 12, 1961, the Soviets sent the first man into space. Yuri Gagarin (Yaroslav Zhalnin), the son of peasants, made it into a small group of candidates, selected from over three thousand fighter pilots. The Soviet Union's leading rocket engineer, Sergei Korolev (Mikhail Filippov), was convinced that Gagarin was the right man for the job who'd go on to make history aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft.

A very disappointing feature film about this tiny but ballsy guy who is one of mankind's greatest heroes. The Russians have every reason to be proud of the achievements of their space program but Yuri Gagarin deserves a better tribute than this corny, patriotic schmaltz. Sadly, Gagarin: First in Space looks like an emulation of a Ron Howard film.
