Narratively ,
Is all over the place . Which is a shame because the tale of charismatic mind reading charlatan trickster Adam Stein (Jeff Goldblum) is a decent one. Certainly the deftly handled flashbacks to his time as the most celebrated illusionist magician clown comedian in Berlin , and then how he survived in a concentration camp. The meat of the film is what he does in the psychiatric asylum for Holocaust survivors he`s been committed to and sort of influences.
He suffers tremendous survivors guilt.
Yet is only alive due to making fun of a man who ultimately ends up having the power of life and death over him.
Won't say any more in case you stream it. Since anything else I could say would be a spoiler.
Critics disliked it (Maybe if it`d been made by Disney they`d be shilling to a different tune
). However I think it`s worth a watch. None of the actors seen are in the least shabby.
Whereas Jeff Goldblum is superb
