The Redwood Massacre (2014)
- Killer's outfit & mask are solid.
- Gore & brutality is on fully display. Killer has a tendency to outright punch his victims both male & female which is something you don't see in slashers that often and is kinda jarring.
- It does go a little too far into torture porn territory early on.
- 3 females of the cast do a good job at their roles. 1 of whom is grating & annoying by design but gains your sympathy towards the end.
- Zero nudity sadly.
- Forest & field cinematography is beautiful. Once inside the killer's barn it gets way more filtered & overly murky at times. Stalking scenes at night have harsh unnatural lighting.
- The film suggest the killer is supernatural & hints (both verbally & by the reveal of the possible scale of the slaughter taking place during the final showdown) that the location of these events is some kinda limbo that is impossible to simply drive out of. But the ending doesn't address it at all.
- In the end it's a simply ok slasher. It's not meta or humorous at all, plays things dead straight & bleak.
