Those "aliens" sound remarkably like some humans, and not at all "alien".
If this really were "far in our future" then I suspect there may not be many minerals, or clean water, left, at least so long as we humans continue our "alien" ways.
Perhaps we should get all the "alien" visitors to eat vegemite? I'm sure that'd solve some sort of problem... somewhere.
