Was late coming to this film because last year somebody who`d seen it told me which characters died. No don't ask me why. As I`d specifically made clear that I hadn't seen it yet and didn't want any spoilers. But then who gives away spoilers to movies
Unless you know the other person has seen it you can't discuss it. Seriously I said don't tell me anything. So how did that translate in his nogging into "Tell me who lives at the end"
Annnnyway
Hopefully everybody here has watched it already
Because although I found it entertaining enough (Despite practically no characterisation) there were an awful lot of things that didn't make bloody sense.
Such as if this was predominately a revenge tale why didn't they take the fight to Mr Baddie who was weakly guarded at the time. As you cut the head off that snake and game over. So strike first. Rather than wait for him to gather an army and attack. Having to then defend a town that`s not worth saving and impossible to properly hold off a hundred or so men..
If they`d done this then more time could have been spent getting to know this magnificent seven. Give them all a backstory so we give a shit when a percentage die. As it was when they did die it moved me as much as one of the unnamed townsfolk dying.
Also if Mr Baddie had a Gatling gun seemingly able to decimate everything in it`s path how come he didn't use that first to at least soften the town up. Yeah and what was the point of one of the seven leaving to then return and do, bugger all ?. Sure I know you can say the whole story is about seven protecting a town. But considering the budget and a chance to make something different I feel they really dropped the ball.
Definitely if you place the budget this had against a film like Bone Tomahawk and what S. Craig Zahler managed to achieve. Both in developing characters plus sense of story.
I'm now checking out the American (As opposed to the true Japanese original) original. Haven't seen in it many years.
Finding it as superb as I remember
