I've quite a few of the BC series as well and the "roughness" of it all added to its appeal.
Given these were silent 8mm loops produced in the 70s, it's not a stretch to think that the beginning/ending of these loops were damaged over time. Some of it could have been editing the individual loops for transfer to video (BC #1 was released in 1980) for time constraints or bad spots on the film. There are spots where there are abrupt shot changes at all points during the loop. These were about as close to "home made" as a professional shoot could get. Again, IMO, part of their appeal.
Not sure we'll ever know. Barbara Behr and her collaborators have disappeared over time.
