What the guy should have done is kicked the battleaxe out for insulting HIS customers, and for criticising what HE chose to sell.
Nightmare scenario for you, though, and fortunately nothing like that ever happened to me. The worst I had was when (I have told this one before), the pretty girl who had just served me (with a bit of back chat thrown in for good measure), whispered "wanker" as I left the shop. Whispered it, but loud enough for me to hear. I still feel a twinge on embarrassment about that even now, and it is probably nearly 25 years ago!
