Best way to save Images in Threads?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to save images that have multiple pages on a thread? any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depending upon your browser and platform - you can use browser plugins to capture single and multi picture selections. There will be more info in the help section of this forum. Use the main page search facility to find user recommendations.
If you are using firefox - then imageHost Grabber works just fine.

Trouble with downloading automatically especially entire threads is hosts thesedays are
becoming more and more unreliable

If any server is too stressed the content on it wont download and you'll be none the wiser
I've checked content that was deemed dead by the automatic downloader many times
manually and found it to be alive

Checking to see what hosts are in a thread and sampling them if your going for the entire thread is just smart

Smarter is downloading in smaller batches of posts
- 5 posts per page (maximum of 150 images in a post on VEF)

The reason I say stay small is large all in one sessions - 40 posts per page
can go very wrong if a hosts server goes offline - its like watching grass grow
- as it checks each image and returns it unavailable
- if you have image grabber set to check them multiple times even slower.

- 5 posts - maximum 750 images versus 40 posts - up to 6000 images

You can reduce or increase posts per page from the default 10
via your User cp - see directions below

Before you use the automatic downloader TURN OFF SIGNATURES
unless you want to end up with images in them

Found user cp / setting & options / options / thread display options (half way down)
- visible post elements - show signatures - untick

Under that is - Number of Posts to Show Per Page

Change to what you want and save at the bottom

I used image grabber 1.6.5.5 for eons until imagehosts started to become unreliable

With add-ons it always pays to check the authors homepage if the program starts acting up...several times there have been newer versions on it compared to the firefox page

Now its 1 post at a time for me - less stress on their servers plus it gives more chance of getting
ALL the content thats alive

others swear by managers like

Down Them All

Complete rewrite as a webextension

Thanks for the tips buttsie. I did notice what you were talking about, where imageHost Grabber would say some images on a certain host aren't available, but I check it manually and they are there. So I will do that from now on, sample download a few images from a page at a time and check before downloading multiple now. Thanks again for the tips

ImageHost Grabber info.

Hey guys.
Just a heads up for those that may have missed it.
IHG has changed their domain from a .com to a .eu and you need to make an edit to keep up to date. ;)

From the IHG Forum:

Change your host file setting to imagehost-grabber.eu (from host file editor) from http://imagehost-grabber.com/hostf.xml to http://imagehost-grabber.eu/hostf.xml to ensure you keep up to date after the big change. (The old URL will work until about June.)

EDIT: Just changed mine, and got an update for the host file the first time I used it today. I hadn't seen one prior to that in a few weeks.;)

Very helpful Boatguy; Thanks

Updating the Imagehost Grabber host file - how to:
Firefox's menu -> Tools -> IHG -> Host File Editor -> Update from online host file -> OK.

You can find it here too + the manual

Here's a quick, down and dirty way to do it.

Right click in an open space on whichever page you are viewing.......go to ImageHost Grabber.....host file editor....click on modify hostf servers in the lower right....double click the host file that shows in the dialog box, and you can edit at will. Then, just save your changes.

After changing it from .com, to .eu with this method, you should get the updated host file the next time you use it. ;)

I missed your post yesterday when I made mine solidwing. If you're using FF, and Imagehost Grabber, the "suck the current thread" option will grab all the pics from multiple pages. ;) You simply need to input which page to start on, and which page to stop on. Works beautifully.

I use Bulk Image Downloader which is dynamite. Sometimes a few will be missed on slower sites. The trick is to remove the check nest to 'close when download is complete'. This way you can examine what is left. You can see if these are really existing pics by displaying thumbnails of them. Some may be banners or junk (or below the minimum you stipulated in options). If there's quite a few I usually reopen it a day later () you can save it) and find that many now download, imageview for one.

Recently very large JPG files have been posted and I find that BID cannot download anything over around 4000-5000 MB. Then I get them from the page. But most of the others that do not work don't work from the page either.

I heard about BID from the VEF help pages. It was free but even the $25 price now is worth it. I've downloaded a couple of thousand in a couple of minutes. Constant improvements/updates.
