But dogs aren't 'academics', so this seemed a silly assumption

Dogs can do other things, like lead blind people, hunt people, pull sleds, find explosives etc etc - never met a child that could do that :D

That a child can not do either..:D

I have a Belgian Shepherd Dog.

I trained her very good, she watched the farm etc. but I also use her to herd my sheep.

Before I had a Doberman Pinscher, a mix Foxterriër & mix a Shepherd/Dobermann.

My favorite will be the Grey Wolf, there social & excellent in hunting.

When I bought my dog, I was forbidden to call my dog a Groenendael, couse she's more a mix than a real breed.
Breeders want there dogs pure, so if I get pups from my dog, Nobody wants these pups in there program.

Mine are Huskies. I've had three in my lifetime and they are darned, wondeful dogs. I wouldn't recommend keeping them in a warm climate though as they are accustomed to the cooler temperatures. When I lived in Arizona, I had to give mine to my brother, who was living in Wisconsin at the time.
