So sad. Seems she didn't have the Playmate life.

I also belong to a Yahoo group called Rapidshare Video Library. Around October or November of 2008, the moderator had posted she was in California and quite ill. Said she was dealing with pneumonia and other side effects from old age and illness.
Basically, it was just her time to go.
Gave an address to send get well wishes. I sent her a card with a note in it thanking her for all the smiles, joy & general good feelings her work had given so many over the years.
Bettie's work was NEVER pornographic. If the terms "good clean fun" and "sex" should ever be used together, it would be to describe her work.

So many of these girls died too young....it's so tough once you hit your 30's or later, are no longer 'on top' or considered young and desirable. In terms of career opportunities, money, fame, and attention, alot changes from the time these girls are in their early 20's (or even late teens) to the early-30's. Can be a tough adjustment and depressing -- notice all the overdoses. :(

Since December 1959 when the first issue of Playboy was published, 39 women who have been Playmates of the Month have passed away. Of these 39 women...The majority of them - seventeen, to be exact - have died of natural causes. Ten have died as a result of cancer, four have died of heart attacks, two have died as a result of post-surgical complications, and one has died of colon blockage.Six former Playmates have died as a result of drugs - either drug overdoses (5), or adverse drug reactions (1).Five former Playmates have been killed in accidents - four in automobile accidents, and one in an airplane accident.Five former Playmates have no cause of death listed in their obituaries.Four former Playmates have committed suicide. Two former Playmates have been murdered.May they all Rest in Peace.

Good info...but alot of the 'natural causes' reasons are covers for drug overdose or even suicide. Family and friends don't want some things going public.

When you read about a healthy woman in her 30's dying from a heart attack, suspicions rise. Alot of these girls and women hit their life and professional highs very young, never recaptured that fame, and later on can very easily sink into depression with drugs, sleeping pills, or booze. Alot of these girls really though they would be 21 or 22 forever and always on top -- hitting the 30's and closer to age 40 than their centerfold ages is a shock to many, esp. if they saved no money (almost all), have poor or no job prospects (ditto), or are unmarried (many or most). :( Similar to other magazine girls, models, and aspiring actresses.

Surely you mean "Ovarian Surgery" which would indicate Ovarian Cancer. A great killer of women of all ages.

Mayfair 70s girl, real name Eve Stratford, murdered in London 1975

I remember having a contemporary copy of that mag edition as a 19 year-old student in London. Beautiful (I think) Danish girl who alas divulged quite a lot of detail about her habits (e.g. liking to be dominated) and haunts in the text accompanying the nude photos, which it was later reported may have been used by the killer. Appalling - don't know if anyone was ever convicted.
