RIP Rupertramjet

Shocked to learn today of his passing-he'd been dealing with lung cancer-but I was under the impression he was making good progress. Another good man gone too soon. I know he hadn't been active here for the past couple of years-but that was more to do with his job rather than his health. We never met in person-but the email and phone conversations used to go on for hours.

Damn, always found his posts interesting.

RIP Rupert.

Yes-and late The Parachute Regiment. Not being a great rugby fan myself (terrible thing for a kiwi to confess to...) I don't know a great deal about his past rugby background-other than he usually played prop but he had a long and distinguished military career-both in service of his country, and in more recent years, as a senior adviser to the UN. I imagine haroldeye can fill in a few more details on the rugby side of things-being a bit closer to home, as it were

Yes-he and Mayte Mateos were in a long term relationship....sadly he never got the chance to make an honest woman of her....

I'm very sorry to read about his passing. I have been wondering why he was absent and thought it may be work-related or due to some problems he could have been facing as a former Parachute Regiment member. The news that he succumbed to lung cancer truly shocks me. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Rupert.

Yep, terrible.

I remember that I liked him because even if he was being boastful about himself, he was funny about it.

All of the communities he's a part of are missing out.

RIP.

This is one hell of a blow. Rupert was a really nice man and very well informed in various discussions. I remember him saying that he had moved into a UN appointment after retiring from the army and just assumed that he was silent because he had to conform with security obligations. I have missed him, but will miss him a lot more now.

Poor man - he survived a lot of dangerous stuff only to still be taken down so soon, so prematurely. How sad is that?

A sad loss for the VEF community.

RIP
