Because Fichier are a great host and relatively cheap in comparison to other filehosts.

And today, 1Fichier, have dropped their download speed to 50Kb/s, with long delays between accessing files. Looks like the service is now unusable without an account!

I just noticed that, I hope it is not permanent.

One does have to wonder how they give such good free speeds and such cheap membership, when almost all others give lousy free speeds and hideously expensive memberships.

I just started a download as an unregistered free user and it said I would be limited to 500 kb/s.

I'm getting @700 kb/s while the file is downloading. Free download speeds can vary depending on routing and how busy their network and servers are. If you create a free account with them, you usually get better download speeds even if you don't do any uploading.

1fichier uses France server locations and I think it depends how far you are away from the origin server.
I usually get 1mb/s even with premium account on them.

I just downloaded a movie in 6 minutes, 2.5mb/sec.
So the 50kb/sec is not a permanent thing I think.

1fichier is indeed an amazing host, I hope they last a long long time just the way they are :)

Yes, I have a video downloading at this moment at 2mb/s, so they must have had a re-think about dropping the speed to an unusable level!

I'd bet my last dollar its got nothing to do with them dropping or raising speeds

Its just the demand at the time on the individual server the file is on
either has free capacity or it doesnt


If too many free & premium users(unlimited) are requesting too much all at once you get
outages , waiting times & slow speeds on some servers.

I just found a thread with a link to 1fichier. The website says it won't limit the speed at all, but that's not true. But the speed is ok.

Before that it said it would limit the speed and yes it was nearly unusable that day. To me they seem to have lots of limitations and they vary from file to file or from day to day.

All in all it's ok without premium. :D:thumbsup:
