1.an uneducated white farm laborer, especially from the South.
2.a bigot or reactionary, especially from the rural working class.

Jeff Foxworthy defines "redneck" as a "glorious absence of sophistication." I've always liked his "You might be a redneck" schtick. A few of my favorites.

If you can play "Sweet Home Alabama" on a touchtone phone...

If people ask to hunt in your front yard...

If you mow the lawn and find three or more cars...

If going to the bathroom at night involves shoes and a flashlight...

If your father's cell number has nothing to do with a phone...

If you're too drunk to fish....

If Your Wife and Your Sister are the same person...

You call off the wedding when you find out the bride-to-be is still a virgin, because "Any girl that ain't good enough for her own kin ain't good enough for us".

That is why I tell people that there are rednecks in every state in the USA and every country I have visited. I'm sure our antipodean brothers and sisters even have rednecks. :D
