He does like women and got on famously with many of his female guest stars on THE SAINT and THE PERSUADERS. Annette Andre and Sylvia Syms both speak highly of him. Annette recalls that he led her through her first episode and helped her deal with a difficult director. He's got a reputation for being easygoing and pleasant on the set with a love of jokes. THE PERSUADERS is worth a look, even if only for Imogen Hassall, Susan George, Jennie Linden, Annette Andre, Rosemary Nicols (who had been the ultraleggy Annabelle Hurst on DEPARTMENT S), Kate O'Mara (who had been cast in DEPARTMENT S and replaced by Nicols), Valerie Leon, Joan Collins, Sue Lloyd, Sinead Cusack, Juliet Harmer, Anna Palk, Suzanna Leigh, Hannah Gordon, Penelope Horner, Cyd Hayman, Anna Gael, Suzan Farmer, Nicola Pagett, Madeline Smith, Anouska Hempel, Suzy Kendall, June Ritchie, Carol Cleveland, Margaret Nolan, Jean Marsh, Yutte Stensgaard, Diane Cilento, Lois Maxwell, Jenny Hanley and many other persuasive ladies...

When Space 1999 was airing in the states, the US TV Guide had an interview with Schell. She talked about her jungle girl movie, claiming she'd attached leaves and twigs to herself for the sake of modesty, but the director yanked 'em off and pushed her in front of the camera. (Nah, I didn't believe it either.)
Nile aired on US network TV in '72, I think. Who did Schell play, Mrs Baker? The show was wall-to-wall topless black women but I don't remember any white tits. No doubt the network censor cut them. (Just as most of the US TV runs of Shaka Zulu left the black nudity completely intact but trimmed a butt shot of white actor Robert Powell in a washtub.) |
Before joining the cast in the 2nd season of Space:1999, she was on the Moon earlier in the Hammer films sci-fi western Moon-02

Beautiful women with a sexy body. That sideburn effect makeup though was a real turn off for me as at the time (mid-late 70s) I used to picture the tv show 'Monkey' and/or JPR Williams. No disrespect intended to either the actor of rugby player, but neither floats my boat.
Her appearance in the first series as the android (earlier posted photos in white swim-suit style dress) is minus sideburns and remains my favourite Space 1999 memory of her as I can fully appreciate both her beauty and sexiness. |
