The Rialto Report -- excellent podcast devoted to Porn history

Folks have mentioned a few episodes here, but I want to give a big thumbs-up to this entire project, a real labor of love by journalist Ashley West (sounds like a porn name doesn't it?) and a team of people with history in the business like Gerald Damiano, Jr. There's real journalism and digging here, and they turn up a lot of great stories.

These are terrific stories of golden age porn, characters like Jimmy Keyes, the amazing story of "Centurions of Rome".

A wonderful journey into the crazy stories around porn in the 70s and 80s, mostly in New York.

Rialto Report also has fulll scans of many Magazines

-- I just noticed this, they're doing full scans of vintage magazines, some are only a year or two, but the scans are very well done. They seem to be adding new titles at the moment.

Adam Film World

High Society

All in all, Rialto seems very VEF-worthy.

Rialto does a kind of reporting on long ago porn that will please Pron historians-- consider their great essay:
"Jamie Gillis vs. Ed Powers: The $20,000,000 Conflict Behind the Birth of Gonzo Porn"

-- this isn't the kind of reporting you find in Businessweek

a little taste

He was strictly small-time when I first met him. What he did have was contacts, and had quickly become well-connected in the business. For some reason Reuben Sturman took a shine to him, and gave him a small porno film distribution company, as well as paying to get Ed’s teeth fixed. It didn’t make a difference – Ed was still ugly.

I was living in San Francisco at the time, but I traveled down to Los Angeles to make films, and I met Ed on a set in the Valley one day. He was eager to impress me, but I didn’t pay much attention to him. That is, until he told me that he’d taken home two hookers who tied him up and robbed him. That intrigued me mildly, but then he told me that he’d been so turned on by the ordeal that he tracked the hookers down and asked them to do it again.

Now I was interested, you know? He sounded like he was on my wave-length. All of a sudden, he handed me the phone, and I was talking to one of them, who was telling me that she’d just bought a new gun with the money Ed paid her. She said it was even more frightening that the one she’d used to terrify Ed. I enjoyed that detail.

She is very well spoken and opens up about everything from her childhood on. Worth a listen for anyone who is a fan.

I just tried it, the link is still good. ;)

Yes...

The Rialto is the bees-knees.

Second only to VEF ~ imo.

Members here who enjoy the words and info, as much as the visuals will adore TRR.

My only crit, is that there is no 'forum' for readers to amplify and discuss
~ their comments / input are mainly artcicle-specific.

But still an incredible source, and I've only experienced one 'dead link' in the years I've followed it

Not risking an Edit.... :D

One tremendous thing that TRR does, is the frequent Fundraiser for those from the Adult-World that have fallen on hard times.
Kay Parker did not become homeless, Sharon Mitchell could pay her dealer - joke - :)
Others could afford medication / surgery etc.

Brilliant stuff.

So... after almost 6 years of hosting The Rialto Report, our website hosting company, Bluehost, today suddenly decided that they have an issue with the nudity on our site.
As a result they have canceled our contract with them - and taken TheRialtoReport.com down completely.
We're working on transferring all our content to an alternative site - so that the site will be back up asap.
Apologies to all of you who have tried to access the site today, and thanks for your patience and support..!
(All podcasts are unaffected and still accessible through your preferred podcast app).
We're having a Blue Summer...

Here's hoping and praying for their quick return.

Intolerance

Once again, my tenet that the genuine censors on the Internet and the World-Wide Web are not governments, but hosting corporations and payment processing services, comes to bear.
Even politicians can finally lose an election. There must be some method to oust them and replace them with more tolerant types. :p

There are plenty of hosters. They're not all obliged to host everything. You can host, yourself, if you're so inclined.
