My pet peeve: Actresses who won't do nudity.

This has been kick started from a brief convo in the Helen Flanagan thread regarding her possible future nudity after corrie.

My point was that Suranne Jones was cast in much the same role as HF and since leaving corrie has been in a few "gritty" post watershed adult dramas with sex scenes and has disappointed on every occasion.

Why do they keep casting women who won't do nudity in roles that practically require it?

How realistic is it for there to be a sex scene where the woman is desperately keeping her tits covered like her life depends on it?

You can't have gritty drama portraying supposed real life all thorough a program then do all the sex scenes fully clothed or tits covered at all times.

I'm not expecting hard core porn on the BBC or anything but in my opinion to be remotely realistic sex scenes require some amount nudity and women who refuse to do nudity shouldn't go for roles that may need it.

/end rant.

I find it strange that some actresses, major stars even, such as Susan Sarandon and Helen Mirren drop them on many occasions, and it has not done their careers any harm, whereas some others don't seem to want to. :(

Lisa Kudrow, Jane Krakowski, Sarah Chalke and Sara Rue are a few that spring to mind.

C'mon, girls, get 'em out for the lads. :D

That bugs me as well, you see a scene where the female lead and her lover are in bed, and she is doing her best to keep her breasts covered, pulling the sheets up around her while the male lead is more than happy to show off his physique, so phony, people do not act like that in real life and for me it breaks the illusion of the scene.:(

Are we forgetting that as he's lying there recovering his breath after having just had sex, he'll get out of bed still wearing his underwear?

I would imagine it was early in her career and as a struggling actress would do what it took to get the work, now she is established she can pick and choose but i don't remember seeing her in much that called for it in recent years.

But in her favour when the work called for it she did it.

This is something that really annoys me as well. And I totally agree that many scenes can be absolutely ruined by the lead actress' no-nudity clause which makes suspension of disbelief impossible, as you can see the actress caring more about making sure her nipples aren't exposed than actually delivering her lines. As an actress, how can anyone justify their character, in post-coital glow, worrying about hiding her boobs from the character she has just (supposedly) made mad, passionate love to. It's ridiculous.

Roxanne Pallett and, to a degree, Nikki Sanderson, have set a new standard for all soap starlets out there. Just like Anna Friel, I hope these girls continue to take on more and more roles that require nudity. Of course we all want that nudity to be as explicit and prolonged as possible, and that is no bad thing as the earlier quoted examples of Helen Mirren and Susan Sarandon quite rightly shows.

I still remember the excitement of buying a DVD-only special extended episode of Brookside many years thinking it would have Claire Sweeney topless. The disappointment still haunts me. Suranne Jones playing a sex therapist in a series full of sex and nudity, but not showing her own boobs is a complete insult to viewers everywhere. In fact any film or TV series that has nudity from extras but not the lead actress(es) should be ashamed of itself.

Hollyoaks, a show built on beautiful people in skimpy clothes being promiscuous, has been a terrible offender by offering many late night specials where the content is no different from the early evening show, but for the odd swear word. It's time for us Brits to adopt a more sensible, casual approach to nudity and stop ruining good scenes with prudish behaviour.

The late night Hollyoaks swindle was a prime example, with supposedly more adult themes and raunchier action but with any regular cast members showing no more than their regular lads mags shoots.

The program was deliberately advertised to give the impression the regulars would be getting their kit off but the only real nudity was done by unknowns.

This sundays episode of "Single Father" had Suranne in a sex scene with David Tennant, he said fuck 3 or 4 times but the Jones boobs were hidden behind the sheets so determindly it was actually obvious she was concentrating more on hiding her tits than just about anything else, it was actually quite pathetic to watch.

Not a series, but two women who showed the absolute hight of hypocrasy were Trinny & Susannah in "Trinny & Susannah Undress the Nation." A doco about glorifying the naked form for Christ's sake!

I have seen some earlier shows where they delight in getting anyone ELSE naked (ratings) and if it came to them there were always coy camera angles and strategic clothing or whatever, so I was not expecting any revelations.

But to do a bloody show on the subject ..

"we English are so prudish"
"we should love/be comfortable with our bodies"
"will you get naked with us"
"I don't want to show anything except my back"
"Oh, I wasn't expecting so many people to lay face up (slightly embarrassed)"

God!! I would dearly have loved to hide her arse hole with a boot!

It's been a perennial gripe as long as i can remember.
Even worse than the no nudity sex scenes, are the movies based and marketed on...sex, or a particular actress going nude.

Any movie with Aniston or Alba comes to mind.

Goldie Hawn - her serial teasing has become very tiresome.
