Born Monetta Eloyse Darnell in Dallas, Texas, and one of five children, to Calvin Darnell and Pearl Brown. Darnell was a model by the age of 11 and was acting in theater by the age of 13. She was chosen by a talent scout to go to Hollywood but was sent home to Dallas when the scout discovered she had lied about her age.

It's surprising and a bit of a waste of a very beautiful and talented actress that she didn't make a bigger impact on Hollywood. No doubt there were reasons, but she was really good. Ho hum.

Died in a fire of unknown source while visiting friends. While sleeping upstairs and awakened by smoke, she tried to exit through the downstairs door, but was trapped. Badly burned over 90% of her body she died the following day in the hospital.

I saw a biography on her a few years back...she was making a comeback, and was in a western called Black Spurs(1965) she looked GREAT from the small clip the showed. Of course, she was still only 41.
