Probably good that Steve didn't write Amazing Spider-Man instead of Stan. "I'm sort of sorry you got killed Uncle Ben, but it's not really my problem. With great power comes great opportunity for profit!"

From about issue 25 until his last (38) Ditko was doing Spider-Man from scratch without reference to Stan Lee. He'd provide the art with notes as to how the plot was progressing. Rumour is he was putting Objectivist stuff into the stories but Lee would ignore it and write the dialogue his own way. Supposedly one of the reasons Ditko quit but who knows?

Ditko must be one of the most miserable bastards on Earth. What a bleak view of the world. Becoming a recluse and refusing interviews was probably the most philanthropic thing he ever did.
