Looking to the future

I've been through that many calamities, some self inflicted (killing backups accidently being the lowlight) over the past 16 years to me its all about your mind set when these disasters unfold.

Its never nice nor easy and trudging over old ground can actually feel like work more than fun

Keeping things in perspective

You initially upload , its downloaded and then its in many many collections
even if in the future the posts / hosts die

You view others uploads , download and save - maybe you re-up after the next implosion
if their no longer around

What tends to occur in times like these - is posters who have had enough will cease for a time
and others who havent been scarred have the opportunity to have their turn.

End of story for mine - its just the way it is and will always be

Uploading from 2005-2011 was relatively easy with a few serious bumps
that killed a fair portion of VEF.

Uploading 2012- can feel like your shopping in a war zone for a safe haven (file or image host)

You live , learn & change or suffer the same experience again and again
For mine you can never have too many options in a post or backups offline

The biggest challenge going forward will be changing our own behaviour I suspect

1. over posting (maybe fine if your keeping it active with a revisit every 12 months)

Its not hard to imagine swamped unlimited imagehosts suddenly having limits
like imagevenue - 12 months inactive = deleted file

2. ad-blocking (image hosts only have revenue from ads to pay for bandwidth)
3. overuse of download managers (ditto above - bypasses ad revenue)

Their not easy things to change

Malvertising while only infecting a small number of Ads has been shown to bypass signature based security suites & sandboxes with ease especially if you've got a serious vulnerability on your PC.
The IT unsavvy will continue to err on the side of caution which will cost the imagehost.

A few Imagehosts offered premium services but you needed a detective licence to find them - Postimage.org / pixxxels.cc tried to get one set-up recently - their payment processor pulled out.

Using download managers is so ingrained my only suggestion would be a backup filehost link for the larger sets in the private areas which miss out on the guest traffic that out numbers us members 3/4 to 1 - so a bit of pressure is taken off the imagehost

Yes, I have seen the hobby morph over the years, been collecting from usenet since 98. slowly i see the spam overtaking the whole usednet org. i only gave up my giganews script last month and have been a visitor to VEF about a year, via the abpev advisement. that was one of the last groups i was seeing good stuff in, but found VEF a great joint, really enjoyed the thorough rejection of t. I0rds.

In one of his posts somewhere buttsie mentioned that one of the major reasons for the two images hosts pulling the plug is because they are hosting copyrighted material, and rather than endure the legal court manusha they decided to simply close up shop.

What I find somewhat ludicrous and absurd is that much of that copyrighted material is now being "withdrawn" (re-upped) from those two hosts and is being sent on to a bevy of other hosts, depending upon what host one chooses.

Are we to expect that the owners of that copyrighted material will also go chasing and begin legal court proceedings against them, who will in turn also simply elect to pull the plug rather than endure the court battle bullshit?

If that "snowball effect" continues to occur the future of porn and porn sites looks dismal and not very promising, as there will not be any hosts left around to host our material/images!

Copyright owners would love to kill every perceived illegal sharing platform if they could

They've tried really hard with filehosts and still they exist in 2017

VEF like all image & file hosts only survive because of the DMCA protection
As long as you remove content when asked no one can touch you

The current law suit says maybe otherwise but only if theres a 3rd party firm involved
that has initimate details of everything your doing (Just guessing as i'm no legal eagle)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digita..._Copyright_Act

From what i've seen and read over the past decade its not as easy as it seems
where courts are concerned.Copyright holders have had plenty of black eye judgements.

Its even less clear when you see copyright holders versus big business in the courts

Youtube versus Viacom for example (youtube won 2010-2014)
although it ends with out of court settlement - what ever that means

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viacom...._YouTube,_Inc.

What the future holds is anyones guess

Checking up on where a site is based via who is probably smart
Checking to see if their associated with any 3rd party companies via scripts even smarter

If either of these ever saw the light of day we might be closer to the end
Talk of making users use their real names online would definitely have an effect

One of the biggest gripes with members are complaints that their posts/images are always disappearing, so it seems to me that Imagebam and Imgbox had been complying when asked/ordered to remove certain images and material.

It wasn't always that way here; the original admin had a quite explicit Nora Kuzma avatar :D

Its irrelevant - the court has obviously said enough to spook the owner into closing down

Most likely they decided they had no profitable future or fighting a court battle was too risky or expensive.

Court costs alone are a dangerous thing

Maybe it's for the best.

I clicked on an ImageBam thumbnail a few minutes ago, and got this:

https://t9.pixhost.to/thumbs/745/421...possionate.png

"Your is infected with (3) viruses! System damage 28.1%!" (No, but it soon would be.)

All might not be lost.
I'm currently working through the Alison Tyrer thread (a lovely lass) and clicked on some Imagebox thumbnails only to get the "site down for maintenance" message.
Interestingly, the header on the top of the Tab read, "We're moving".
Finger crossed

Just signed into my imagebam account - no issues

Currently viewing my 379 pages x14 galleries a page - images still alive in those tested

Never forget that these sites use hundreds probably thousands of servers
so individual pics can easily be offline if demand is too high.

I'd suspect what we will encounter from now to the 1.7.17 is servers occasionally being over run with demand and going offline until the demand lessens

The site was last truly offline a week ago
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/imagebam.com.html

If you have the bandwidth available then trying the newly created download tool
maybe worthwhile

last post gives an example of dead imagebam pics only 9 weeks old
