What's the Earliest Song/Record You Remember ?
As a companion piece to the moderately popular Birthday No,1 thread,This thread arises from a conversation I had at work today,I realised that the earliest record I remembered hearing was "Needles and Pins" by The Searchers in the early Sixties (Yes I'm older than I look:p)

Buddy Holly. My dad was/is a big fan and played his records a lot. Especially on a Saturday when he had a few beers.

When I was little, Dad used to sing Ghost Riders in the Sky to me at bedtime.
I don't know whose version of it he liked, this is Johnny Cash. |
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch - Don Juan
Still love it today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2bSh...eature=related |
My parents used to listen to radio 4 all the time, so I never got to listen to music, went to a mates house messing about with their record player, went through their admittedly very small collection, thought music it's rubbish, then on a b side, Sloop John B, a love was born.
Played it over and over again, then got into loads of different stuff, good times, but now music is rubbish, but then I'm old :D |
I hate to admit it but there was one song as a young kid haunted me for years after and was truly awful-Chirpy Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep by Middle of the Road. I hated that song with a vengeance and when we went on holiday to Spain they played it every night in the hotel.

Fading memory does not let me remember the first one. However the First one I remember ever getting excited about was :
She Loves You by The Beatles |
It's a difficult question to answer :( I know the group but not the song.
My Dad's a big fan of the Shadows and used to play thier records all the time. Here's a couple of thier most famous records, Apache: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3Wwyoy3oUs FBI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hga1GalqYo4 Kon Tiki: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRrIS...eature=related |
Morningtown Ride by The Seekers.
Apparently, my mother played this to me in my cradle to make me sleep. I heard it again in 2003 and remembered it vividly, even though I hadn't heard it for nearly 40 years. It is a superb lullaby. |
