I am astounded that that and other websites keep mentioning "Never Say Never Again" it was not an official Bond movie, i.e. not sanctioned by Danjaq S.A. who did not allow anything resembling James Bond to be used including the famous gun barrel sequence, the dancing nude girls and the name 007 plus the gun logo. It is a re-hash of "Thunderball" and is the result of a falling out between Broccoli/Saltzman and Kevin McClory who won a court case to use the story and keep the rights. Personally it is a dreadful comeback for Sean Connery who should have walked away FAST! from it. Most notable for Rowan Atkinson as Nigel Small-Fawcett and Algy(the Q character) who says to Bond "I'm glad your back Mr Bond, are we going to have some gratuitous sex and vilolence?"
To which Bond replies "I hope so Algy!" CRINGE!!!!!

Most Bond websites (and most Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. websites) are fanmade. And fans don't really care about a Bond movie being made or sanctioned by Danjaq or not.

Danjaq isn't the owner of the James Bond copyrights. In fact, they have to buy the rights from Glidrose publishing. Glidrose owns the rights to the Fleming books. But they can't sell the movie rights to ThunderBall because Kevin McClory owns them. How did Kevin McClory get them? Well, he and Fleming together with Jack Whittingham came up with the story for ThunderBall for a TV series to be made. However McClory and Whittingham couldn't finance the series and the partnership desolved. Fleming, behind the backs of McClory and Whittingham made a novelization and that book is called Thunderball. Naturally McClory and Whittingham sued Fleming. The judge gave ownership of the movierights of Thunderball to McClory and ordered Fleming to mention in his book that is was based on a script by Fleming, McClory and Whittingham.

When Broccoli and Saltzman bought the movie rights for all the Bond novels, they couldn't get Casino Royale (it was already sold for TV) nor Thunderball.

So Danjaq only owns the right to the 007 gun logo, the gun barrel opening sequence and the Bond music. They do not own the rights of the characters nor the premise of a Bond movie. But every time McClory wanted to use his rightful ownership to the movie rights of Thunderball, danjaq started a legal battle against him.

Never wondered why Ernst Stavro Blofeld and SPECTER were never used in the later Bond movies? Danjaq doesn't have the rights to that character and that organization since they were created in ThunderBall.

Personally, I was a Roger Moore fan before I ever saw a Bond movie. I loved the actor in The Saint and The Persuaders. Yet I must admit that he starred in only 2 decent Bond movies. Only The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only were good. Moore's other Bond movies were poor to say the least.

However Never Say Never Again was probably the best Bond movie to come out of the 1980's. Yes, it felt strange to have a Bond movie without the Bond theme, the gun barrel opening and a pre-titles sequence. But it wasn't filled with stupid gags like Octopussy was (Bond doing a Tarzan scream anyone?)

And it starred Kim Bassinger!

I still stand by what I said NSNA is a dreadful film, like dipping into a box of luxury chocolates and finding them all melted. The sex scene with Sean and Barbara Carrera(Fatima Blush) is laughable! Most real Bond fans give it a wide berth-even if it has Kim Bassinger.

Whenever I buy a book about the Bond movies and it doesn't mention the 1950's TV version of Casino Royale, the 1960's comedy version of Casino Royale and NSNA, I consider the book's writer(s) to be either biassed or payed by Ion/Danjaq to promote their movies.

Same thing for websites and their webmasters.

I think that the new version of Casino Royale is quite a good film in its own right, but is is NOT a James Bond film. The famous Bond music doesn't appear until right at the end for gods sake. Do the producers think that they can get away with changing the format that has proved commercially successful for over 40 years? If I knew who to write to I would have asked for my money back, sorry to go on but I am a Bond fan.

I have to agree that "Casino Royale is quite a good film in its own right" and that it was definitely not a classic bond film, but it was supposed to show how Bond evolved into the Bond we came to know. In the beginning of the film he was more of a Bruce Willis than a Sean Connery, but as the movie progressed he learned and grew until the last scene when he is standing in his tailored suit over Mr. White and says to him, "The name is Bond, James Bond." with the Bond music in the background.

Hopefully this means that in Bond 22 scheduled for release in November 2008 we will find the sophisticated Bond we all knew. However, I personally hope it doesn't degenerate into the forced one-liners that we heard in the previous Bond movies. I was getting a little tired of it.

Here they seem to have achieved a combination of action and character development that could be the ticket for re-doing all of the Bond Films again, which I would like to see.

(Just in case you haven't heard about it yet, the next Bond film is supposed to start up two minutes from where this one ended and Bond goes after the organization responsible for everything that happened in the first one. Who knows, it could be SPECTRE.

i always thought that the james bond franchise belonged to EON PRODUCTIONS and that was why never say never again didnt count to true bond collectors? nice to learn summat on this forum as well as view some lovely pix. thanks greenman, u always seem to have some good info. :)

for me personally i was glad to find casino royale so different. like other posts have said the old format was getting tired. nice to see that daniel craig proved a lot of people wrong by shining in the role. only time will tell of course, but for my money this could be the start of something exciting and keep us watching the films for many more years. pierce and sean were great, but time moves on, and so must the franchise. i am a real bond fan, can name most the villians, girls, cars, etc, but even i can see that bond cannot stay in the sixties. from other forums ive read i also note that people have said this style of bond movie is more true to how fleming wrote his books, but not having read them myself i will remain neutral on that issue. :cool:

You have all missed out the best ? Women and I mean Women..of them all and that is Fiona Fullerton , an English Girl who apeared as a Russian Agent and had a Bath - scene with Roger Moore.Who has the small clip of her in "the Charmer" She has the Biggest natural pair in Britain .
