thanks for looking Dario

Here are the links found on this forum(copied link location and pasted)

http://rapidshare.com/files/23730116...s.1965.avi.008

And this is how the files now appear on my HD( a zip folder before the first and that little unknown file icon on all the rest)

T.R.Ones.1965.avi
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.002
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.003
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.004
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.005
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.006
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.007
T.R.Ones.1965.avi.008

the first file is the ZIP and has the .001 extension when I mouse over it, when I unzip it it looses the .001 extension?
The zip file is the only one that Hjsplit will recognise.

Thanks for taking the time with this

Cheers

What you call a zip file is not a zip file, it's a split file.
HJsplit will only show the .001 file, but it will find the following files automatically if they are in the same folder. So just launch HJsplit, choose join and browse for the .001 file. Hit start and it works.

Nice movie by the way!

thanks again for looking, I know how it should work but it doesn't, guess I've done something wrong. When I select join and the .001 file all I get is the 001 file(eg 94 mb not 94x7+ 40 something mb for the last part).
Guess I'll try and find it elsewhere. The first part looks interesting.
Thanks again:thumbsup:

I framed the essential message here:

I think it doesn't work because you don't do as I say:

Just do it. Don't think.

I've just tried it again, following your directions to the letter and still only get one 94 mb file(which is the size of the first part).
Maybe I should re download the first part and try again?

No still no good.
I think I might find another movie with fewer parts and try again.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again

Just downloaded the first 3 files, they worked fine, all I can think of is you don't have all the files in the same folder.Make sure they are in the same folder, right click and select extract files here.

Um, those instructions are for compressed archives. There's nothing to extract here. Doing this will not work and only confuse a newbie more. His problem seems to be that he doesn't understand that a .001 file is NOT a zip (compressed) file, and if his computer thinks it is, then there's a problem with file associations. He says Windows shows him a compressed file icon beside the .001 file, and this is wrong.

zippo, here is what I suggest:

Right click on the .001 file and select "Properties". ----> Choose the "General" tab. -----> Look down to where it says "Opens with". -----> If it doesn't say "hjsplit.exe", then click the "Change" button and click "Browse"; change it so it points to hjsplit.exe.

Once you've done this, the icon beside the .001 file should be a check mark. Double-clicking it will start HJsplit. You then select the .001 as the input file and proceed as described previously. As long as all the files are in the same folder as .001, HJsplit will join them and you will have your movie.

My mistake, I was using 7ZIP, you get used to doing things automatically.

SUCCESS:D:D yipee...

OK what did I do, even though I was following the instructions my computer was recognising the .001 file as a Zip, when I changed it as instructed above to open with HJsplit still only the first part was viewable:( so I deleted the .002 file and redownloaded that, I then ran HJsplit again and BINGO all parts joined:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I can only assume that the.002 file was somehow corrupted during the first download, and didn't allow HJsplit to locate the other files?

Thank you all so much for your input it seemed a simple process and in the end it is.

When you download this type of split file, all of the splits (.001, .002 etc) should be the same size except for the last one.

It's normal for the last one to be smaller, but if any of the other files aren't the same size, you know you have a problem.
