Magazine covers: eyes on stalks

It is fair to say that porn in print is on the decline, largely due the proliferation of all sorts of erotic material on the internet. Sales have plummeted, old and popular titles have deteriorated or disappeared, and those titles that remain can now be found in some silly shrink-wrap, meaning that you cannot even see the covers any more.

Oh, to go back to the good old days, when there would be a plethora of smiling faces, pert tits and shapely bums - expertly toned to pass muster for public display - on display. A feast for the eyes. Compared to today's magazines and their manufactured cover shots - painted-on things, a photoshopped bikini top, stars or dots covering very obvious nipples - the first view of a mag back in the day was what really drew you in. Sometimes, you'd get a raging hardon just by looking at the cover.

When I was a teenager picking up my copy of Shoot or Match magazine, I'd often look upwards to the top shelf... Thinking madly about the pretty girls showing a hint of nipple in a tight and wet blouse, or some sexy-looking gusset. OK, I didn't really know anything about the gusset back when I was thirteen, but what I saw always got things rumbling down there.

As I was a little squirt, that top shelf was a loooong way up I can tell you!

Looking at covers today make me a little sad. There's little of that old-school style there, and no sign of the thought that created many a frisson for a porn buyer back in the day. A well-crafted, well-shot cover that just blew you away.

Like this:

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...f463448407.jpg

What a wonderful shot this is. A perfect rear-view, the perfectly-defined gusset seam. A photo that shows off so much without showing too much.

Perfect camera work, perfect lighting, the perfect visual draw. I first time I saw this magazine on the top shelf, my eyes were on stalks. I wanted to get that image up close so badly, to share it with just myself. The fantasy remained for a long time, until I finally got hold of the mag a few years later at school, the result of a porn confiscation mission. Once I was alone with the prize I can remember rubbing one out just by looking at the cover. I don't even remember turning to the first page.

They just don't do covers like this anymore.

Sharkhunter February 5th, 2016 07:58 PM

The mission here for all of you all school mag fans to share your favorite cover- the cover that hit the spot. Or just share your favourite all-time covers.

Here are a few more of mine, and why.

Club International Vol. 18 No. 10

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...4463509134.jpg

The first porn magazine I had the courage to buy myself. I was not quite eighteen, and had spent at least a year passing through various newsagents and looking up at the top shelf, trying to pluck up the courage. By now I was able to reach up and take it without bringing the whole lot crashing down, and having seen that glorious image of Donna smiling that sweet smile and hiding her nipples with that tiny little swimsuit I thought "fuck it".

I took the mag, walked straight to the counter, and paid the guy who didn't even bat an eyelid. Were it not for Donna, I might have just kept on procrastinating.

Club International Vol. 25 No. 10

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...9463509209.jpg

Close to exactly seven years after my first mag purchase, I was by now a veteran. Breezing out of shops to buy a porno was no big deal, and sometimes I'd buy two or more at the same time. I walked in to pick up my regular copy of Club, and as my hand made its way nonchalantly to the top shelf my eyes caught the cover - a heavenly image of Claire Cass showing off some fine white gusset, giving me a sexy come hither look over her shoulder.

I couldn't wait to get home and knock one out - by just looking at that cover.

Club International Vol. 27 No. 3

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...4463509297.jpg

Club International was a fantastic magazine, always delivering high-class models. There were, of course, a good many fantastic covers too. One of the most memorable was sweet blonde Gill, in a lighter than light barely-there pink number. That sweet face and even sweeter body lightly covered in that fine lingerie was enough to get the blood pumping.

I remember aching for a wank, frustrated by the traffic as I looked to get myself naked and ready. It took me less than a couple of minutes to blow my load over Gill's centrefold. Scrawled on the page in handwriting were the words "come on my cunt, boys". Thankfully, I didn't quite do that. I quickly closed the mag as I felt that man-sap rising, and delivered half a dozen jets of warm white sauce on that sexy cover.

Girlfan February 7th, 2016 12:13 PM

One immediately springs to mind: Knave Vol 12 Number 12 (I think) from 1980.

http://img173.imagevenue.com/loc549/..._123_549lo.jpg

As far as I remember, it's one of only perhaps two copies of Knave I ever bought - and I bought it purely on the strength of the cover! I'd only been buying magazines for about six months (I was just over 18), and saw this on the magazine top shelf in, of all places, a Morrison's supermarket (they sold one or two "adult mags back then). That picture of the girl on the cover just got me somehow - I had to see the fur behind that fur if you take my meaning. Later that day I made a sortie to a newsagent I knew was quiet, and the ideal place to discreetly buy magazines (no way would I have queued up at a supermarket till to buy a men's mag!), and bought it. I remember being distinctly underwhelmed by the contents, and not really impressed by Knave in general - though I did buy quite a few copies of sister publication Fiesta over the years.
I didn't know it at the time, but my future wife - who I would not even meet for a good 14 years after this one was published - actually appeared in either (or maybe both) Fiesta and Knave (not this issue) in the very late 70s/very early 80s during her 18 month career as a glamour model (part time, she was an impecunious student at a Northern university at the time). I won't identify her further, and she is not at all well known, and wants to forget she ever did it, so don't ask for an ID. It's something she regrets doing, even though she only appeared in a magazine about four times total.

Girlfan February 8th, 2016 09:53 AM

This is Club Vol 24 Number 3.

http://img205.imagevenue.com/loc35/t...r_123_35lo.jpg

I can actually remember buying this one, which must have been in about 1995 or so. I'd gone into the newsagents on the way to work (early-ish, about 7.00AM probably), never intending to but a magazine. As usual, whilst I was selecting my daily paper, the eyes wandered upwards to the top shelf, and this one leapt out at me. I had to buy it there and then. It was a bit frustrating, as I had to wait until I got home that night before I could have a look at the magazine and, er, well, you know.....
In fact, the nine or so hours anticipation added spice to the magazine, and I enjoyed it all the more!

Girlfan February 9th, 2016 03:08 PM

And another one that caught my eye:
the legendary Andrea Clarke from the days when the cover of Club had a bit of class:

http://img124.imagevenue.com/loc405/..._123_405lo.JPG

This was another magazine that I had to buy when I first saw it on the top shelf all those years ago.

Sharkhunter February 9th, 2016 07:38 PM

Club International Vol. 33 No. 10, the cover that won the magazine's final battle against me.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...3464241661.jpg

Although I had seen my first mag more than twenty years previously and had bought my first issue a good sixteen years before, I could never really hold down a stash. For some reason or another, I'd buy a dozen or so magazines before the collection got too big for the single lever-arch file or box.

When I saw the adorable combination of Stella (Sophie Moone) and fellow Hungarian hottie Sandy (Zsanett) my love for the magazine was not only rekindled, but solidified. I was a mag buyer again.

When I saw the following month's issue with the sweetest cover shot of a de-tattooed Natasha Marley in delicate girly underwear in an innocent but sexy pose, it too was a must-buy.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...b464243083.jpg

From that day I bought every issue without fail, and when the box was too full I just bought another box. Suddenly I had a year's worth of issues, and just seeing that neat little pile in front me spurred me on to seeking out all of the previous issues I had bought and chucked out for whatever reason.

Club International Vol. 4, No. 1

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...e464244590.jpg

Club International Vol. 4, No. 1
Price 50p
U.S. & Canada $1.50

I most definitely was not yet 18 years of age
when I spied this on a top shelf in a seedy downtown bookstore.

I don't believe I had ever seen a British skin mag before.
The bright colours caught my eye, as well as its over-sized format
(compared to Playboy, Penthouse and Oui).
From where I stood, only the banner and her sunglasses were visible.
When I took it down from the shelf,
I know that I was shocked to see her exposed nipples.
I found her tan irresistible. I already favoured Playmates with tan-lines.
I would not have known the term "crotch shot"
but this one still captivates me.
I may not have even peeked inside,
but I was blushing when I brought the magazine to the cash register.

Sharkhunter February 9th, 2016 09:24 PM

Lovely hearing these stories. Caboosier, that was fifteen years before my doing the same thing... Makes me feel young! :)

Tmee2020 February 10th, 2016 03:51 AM

I particularly like this Mayfair cover of Eleanor Chisholm from 1976 (Vol 11):

So a little earlier than Sharkhunter's top post which is Vol 19.

I'm putting these out in descending order but without thinking about it too much- a slightly roughed-up looking Maria Whittaker on Club International (1989), and Samantha Fox from Oui 1987. The text on the Club cover doesn't contribute much, Maria definitely does.

Historian February 10th, 2016 07:28 AM

It was the most important thing, wasn't it- the cover shot was the pic that grabbed you by the balls and shouted 'buy this mag'. Sometimes it was the image itself, sometimes it was the identity of the 'headline' model who made the cover. There's one of my favourite Mayfair cover shots ever from back in my teens that I can't post, as the model's given age at the time breaks the rules (didn't worry me that she was 17 at the time, because so was I!), but there are a couple of others which were pretty significant for me

Fiesta, Feb 1983. I'm pretty sure this is, if not the actual first, one of the first mags I ever bought myself, back when I was 16, after a couple of years of getting by with Page 3, the lingerie section of my mum's mail order fashion catalgoues and the occasional mag loaned/given or swapped from mates at school. Without a doubt it was the cover shot that got my attention- I can't even remember who the model is now, but the cute nude girl with pretty eyes and a nice bum posing on a 'moon' set got my attention straight away, and I knew that was the mag I had to buy.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...4464318120.jpg

Mayfair, March 1988. Not so much the cover shot itself (although it is a really nice pic, it's not exactly intensely erotic) as the identity of the cover girl, former Grange Hill actress Paula Ann Bland, in her brief glamour modelling career post-GH, so much so that I remember exactly where and when I bought the mag.

I'd watched Grange Hill religiously as a kid, and had developed just a little bit a bit of a teenage crush on Paula-Ann:o. So, fast forward to 1988, a while after she'd quit the show, I'm going back to uni after the Easter break, and I'm in WH Smiths on my local station, killing time before my train, idly scanning the top shelf- and there's the new issue of Mayfair- complete with Paula-Ann Bland from Grange Hill in a basque and stockings on the cover!

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...4464318121.jpg

There was no way I was leaving that shop without buying a copy, and that train journey may have been some of the most frustrating two hours of my life, anticipating the pleasures to come with the mag nestled safely in my bag.

The worst thing was when I finally got back to Uni, not only were my flatmates back, but I got dragged out to the pub, so still no chance to peruse Paula's shoot properly;) beyond a quick glance on the train that revealed it was topless-only, but very nice. Eventually, I claimed tiredness from the train journey as an excuse to quit the pub early, and rushed back to the flat, headed straight for my room, and got my kit off to enjoy the wank over Paula that I'd been anticipating all day- and IIRC it didn't disappoint.

They may only have been topless pics, but she didn't do much else - as I remember, her glamour career amounted little more than the Mayfair shoot and a couple of Page 3s, before she returned to acting and eventually quitting the business altogether, and I've had many a good session with those pics (I'm sure I've still got the original mag somewhere in the loft) since.

This is a fantastic thread, and I am enjoying everyone's reminiscences. Two things seem evident to me: how important the cover was in persuading you to buy that mag as opposed to the other goodies on offer, and how high-quality and classy the covers of Club were in the 80s and 90s - several mentions have already been made. I'm not going to dissent, but remind you of a few classic Club covers from those "golden years":

Ginny
When she started to appear regularly as Club Girl, I, like so many others, rapidly became a total devotee of Ginny - or, if you prefer (I don't), Brandy Ledford. She did several covers in the early 1990s, and this is one of her stand-out appearances: sophisticated-looking, even in her state of dishabillament. Plus, she is wearing glasses, for some reason, always a turn-on for me.

http://img202.imagevenue.com/loc74/t...y_123_74lo.jpg

Kim Wetherby
Another great favourite, another Club Girl. Seen here with Michelle, I thought Kim a worthy successor to Ginny's charms. What a great rear view here - times two!

http://img161.imagevenue.com/loc63/t...e_123_63lo.jpg

Back to Volume 16 for this one, which must have been 1987, one of my peak years for buying magazines - I'd have been 25. I do remember buying this one, largely on that cover: I lover her coy smile - and another great rear view.
http://img16.imagevenue.com/loc188/t..._123_188lo.jpg

Also from 1987, the girl here is displaying a more overtly sexual attitude - that challenging expression is saying to me "come and have me - if you dare!" It was that look that made me hand over my £1.50 for this one back in the day.

Without hesitation

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...1464387383.jpg
OMFG!

There was no chance whatsoever
that I would not buy this magazine.
I had never seen Kirsten Imrie before -
me being in Canada -
and this cover was ultra eye-popping.

Here, the lower portions of skin magazines
are often hidden by boards.
So, when I lifted this one out of the rack,
I was immediately stunned by the enormity of her boobs.
What an incredibly sumptuous photograph!
From the blue of the water to her
cherry-red nail polish and lipstick.
Add to that my choker fetish.
My penis preempted all trivial considerations.
This magazine demanded immediate intense scrutiny.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...9464387391.jpg
By now (1998), I'm a Kirsten devotee.
To see this compendium on the newsstand is thrilling.
These collections often contain previously unpublished pics.

[The above high rez jpg is my own,
I scanned it today expressly for this post]

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...b464392455.jpg
Marcella aka Margaret Bailey,

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...b464392456.jpg http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...b464392458.jpg http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...2464392457.jpg
Alex Taylor, Kim Delao and Heidi Lynn (Staley) are also
featured in this collection (although these pics are not
from the "Island Girls" mag, just samples off my HD).

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...c464394824.jpg
Heidi Staley is a bit
of a chameleon and
frequently appeared
in Playboy NS editions,
and is always good for
bonus strokes.

Sharkhunter February 10th, 2016 06:02 PM

Two memorable names there, Caboosier! I am glad I thought of this thread, I'm loving the contributions from all of you other mag fiends out there.

OK, the two names... First, Heidi Staley. I too spotted her in the PB Special editions, particularly the Books of Lingerie. They felt like little Victoria's Secret catalogues where you could actually see the tits and minge, and some of the covers were absolutely heavenly. One I remember most had Heidi on the cover - the high cut of her outfit was just something to dream about, and you didn't need to see any more to feel good down there.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...d464399385.jpg

You mentioning Kia Delao, one of my 1990s favourites whom I have posted up in the Wank Club thread, also made me think of another top cover - in the days when glamour photographers would make the effort to take a specific shot for that purpose, rather let the mag editors take any old image apply a pair of badly-drawn photoshopped knickers or dots/stars over the nipples.

Kia - as "Amy" - appeared on the cover of Men's World Vol. 6 No. 5, with her hands coyly covering her pretty breasts and an inconveniently wonderful piece of fabric covering her pubic area. Then, those high-cut bikini tan lines! I have the issue; as it is in a binder it is hard to photograph and impossible to scan, but here's a smaller image:

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...d464399817.jpg

Again, as soon as I saw this cover... I wanted it!

Fuck yeah. This and her debut issue, Volume 19 No. 2 - and that centrefold image that probably elicited what was probably the biggest ejaculation of my late teenage years. I remember that wank well - I had just finished an almighty long politics essay, and in between writing a couple of paragraphs I had been edging all all evening. I decided that my reward for finishing the work would be an almighty spunk explosion, and it didn't take me long to paint the bedsheets white.

I ended up getting an A for the essay, but Ginny was always an A+++. She was simply fantastic.

and as I mused in another thread, if she had been the same age today she would have taken the internet by storm.

Sharkhunter February 10th, 2016 06:33 PM

Following on from the mention of Heidi Staley, I am sure most of you will already know this, but she went on to become a P3nthouse P3t with the name Heidi Lynne. Still the same pretty face and stunning blue eyes, but - if I remember right - with enhanced breasts. I preferred the natural look, of course.

This was my intro to "Jisel" as she was first called in Penthouse.
That naughty expression, the "side-boob", the swell of her butt -
I was smitten in spite of myself. I wanted to resist her glam-slut looks.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...8464404307.jpg
Boy was I happy when she won Pet of the Year!
I had to run right home with this one.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...3464404270.jpg
Her classy/trashy allure plus
her magnificent rear views
have made her one of my
top wank dolls. Unnnngh!
Above is one of my scans.
Here is a set of them.

Any appearance of Brandy as cover-girl resulted in a quickening
of the pulse. The slightest change of pose from a familiar set
was a promise of enhanced pleasures.

I was glad that I had a part-time job at a used book and magazine shop.
I got my mags for cheap so I could buy these just for the covers, even
if they didn't contain any fresh morsels of lewd Ledford lustiness.

And now, for the grand finalé, are two
over-the-top covers: Ginny at peak whore.

martsm February 10th, 2016 07:57 PM

I just chanced on this thread and immediately thought of one of my earliest UK mag purchases.

http://ist3-1.filesor.com/pimpandhos...%2801%29_0.jpg

Jean did it for me from the top shelf then and she still does now. The rest of the set - here - is great too, as is the rest of the mag. I've never seen her in another set anywhere - though I did see her (fully clothed) modelling with a car in a Ford magazine 15 or more years later. I guess she was a photo-model who had just one try at nude modelling - unless others know differently.

Anyhow - when I cleared out most of my mags for family reasons 15 years ago this was one I just had to keep!

:)

martsm February 11th, 2016 04:23 PM

And another Knave cover that jumped out at me in 1978 - two years after the one I posted above.

http://ist3-1.filesor.com/pimpandhos...I/pc041a_0.jpg

Again it's what they didn't show that got me going. The mag was taped shut when I bought it. I remember taking it on a 1 hour journey home and imagining the nude pics inside, then being unable to look at it for a day or two for lack of privacy. As I remember it, my imagination finally turned out to be pretty accurate! I've now posted them here in the early Knave thread.

French Penthouse

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...c464555463.jpg

I was amazed to see this on the shelves of
our largest French Language news agent.
Danielle Martin was one of my all time favourite blondes.
I had not yet learned that she was a big porn star but I knew that
she was the Nazz with God given ass.
There are loads of great shots of her from this photo session so
there was no way that I wasn't going buy this mag
no matter what the contents!

Men Only 1984-85

The first men’s mag that I ever ‘acquired’ was an issue of Penthouse with a cover so dull that it could have been mistaken from a distance for a women’s fashion magazine – that was precisely why I chose it as a precaution. From the age of fourteen, I was a fairly regular purchase of Knave from a co-operative local newsagent, but its covers never especially grabbed me, only the knowledge of what I’d find inside.

Then in 1984 I saw Men Only 48/11 on a top shelf in a larger neighbouring town:-

http://img105.imagevenue.com/loc150/..._123_150lo.jpg

A glorious presentation by the model I now know as Jeanette Starion and definitely an eyes on stalks moment! Buying the mag was the easy part. Getting it home in the company of my parents was more difficult. I wasn't carrying a bag and my coat did not have deep enough pockets. Therefore I slipped the flat magazine into the top of my trousers and pants and pulled my jumper down over the top of it. This was alright while I was standing up, but sitting was awkward. In the back of the car, I managed to hide it under one of the rubber mats on the floor and retrieve it when at home later in the day. The set inside was excellent, but for me the cover picture was still the best. I do love to see a beautiful bottom and a beautiful face simultaneously, especially if the model is looking at the viewer as if to say, ‘Lusting after my arse, are you?’

Naturally, after this introduction, I also became a regular buyer of Men Only. So many of its covers at this time seemed to be tailored exactly to my preferences:-

http://img12.imagevenue.com/loc411/t..._123_411lo.jpg http://img226.imagevenue.com/loc195/..._123_195lo.jpg http://img154.imagevenue.com/loc85/t...8_123_85lo.jpg

In the third of these, however, an inside shot of Andrea Kovics upstaged even the cover for me, as the look in her eye seems to say, ‘Hmm. You really are a perv, aren’t you?’

http://img132.imagevenue.com/loc383/..._123_383lo.jpg

To which I mentally reply, ‘Sure am!’ as my right hand accelerates its action!

Indeed, Jenkinson old chap, indeed. A stunning cover, one that certainly stirs the loins of this gusset fetishist. That's the perfect rear view, with the perfectly-defined gusset seam. This was a great look often seen on covers in the 1970s and 1980s, but hardly almost ever these days.

The story of your putting the mag down your trousers whilst travelling with your parents gave me the shivers. Yikes!

Glad it all turned out well though! :D

rudolph_hucker February 11th, 2016 11:00 PM

These two covers were the first two wank-mags I ever owned, and were purely opportunistic at that. I can remember having them in my bag unable to give them a good look and anticipating what I was to find later on. It wasn't until I got home that I opened up the copy of Ravers, having marvelled over that glorious arse on the cover, and wanking my rigid cock until I shot a huge load over her centre fold spread. And then there was the Escort, with the sumptuously sexy Melanie. Shot a few over her I can tell you. :D

Even now when I go into a newsagent, my eye is drawn upwards to have a quick peak at the covers, and from experience I think many are more interesting than the magazine itself.

A glorious presentation by the model I now know as Jeanette Starion...

So many of its covers at this time seemed to be tailored exactly to my preferences

Men Only didn't command my attention until the 1990s.
It wasn't very common in Canada before then.

Although I certainly bought MO and Club fairly regularly, I was always very much a Mayfair guy in my teens and 20s- A few favourite cover pics:

24/4, April 89. OK, if I'm really honest, as a piece of cover design it's not a classic, it almost looks like something Mayfair's designer threw together in a hurry after they'd had a very long boozy lunch in the pub and suddenly realised 'Oh bugger, we've not done the cover':D
It's not the artistic quality though, that matters here, it's the girl herself.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...0464848867.jpg

Mayfair called her Annabel Stewart, she appeared in a couple of sets for them around that time, as well as a variety of overseas mags under a variety of names, adding up to no more than a couple of pages of VEF thread. A bit of a footnote in glamour history she might be, but back in 1989, probably dropping into the newsagent on my way home from work, I saw that cover pic, and I knew I'd be wanking myself silly over her within the hour- and a quarter of a century later, I still do.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...9464848870.jpg

Artistically, a much more satisfying cover, although the contents were maybe more a source of frustration- Karen Brennan, one of my favourite Page 3 girls on the cover of 23/7 July '88- How could you resist her? I certainly couldn't. IIRC this was the first of Karen's several Mayfair appearances, but the frustration came when in every damn one of them, her knickers either stayed firmly on, or if she did take them off, it was a side-on view, or a bum shot. OK, I enjoyed them all, regularly, but we never did get that Karen Brennan full-frontal nude I'd been almost praying for.

http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/46...a464848872.jpg

Finally from that late-80's era of my Mayfair-buying career, 24/8, August 1989. The headline may have screamed 'Pamella Bordes nude' (for those who've forgotten about her, she was the former Miss India who made headlines when it was discovered that she'd recently shared her sexual favours with a couple of national newspaper editors, a Tory minister- and allegedly some senior chap in Libyan military intelligence...), but the covergirl who grabbed me by the balls was Marlyn Lindsay. Like Annabel's cover, that 'skirt pulled up over her arse to show her stockingtops' look has always been totally irresistible for me, and Marlyn's couple of Mayfair appearances around that time inspired a lot of masturbatory activity- and her return to modelling in her 40s a few years back has given my wrist plenty of exercise as well.

I am really starting to get the feeling that some of here could have organised a porn-buyers club in the late 1980s and early 1990s, one where there would have been little dissent among the ranks and the decision which mags to buy and pass around.

As I have said many times, I was a true-blue Club International man, apart from my buying Men's World during its best spell in the mid-1990s and both MO and Mayfair dependent on the content. As Mayfair tended to contain a larger quota of bustier girls (not my type, as I prefer C-cup and below) it was the mag I tended to buy least, but on many occasions I'd be drawn in by the cover.

I too was immediately captivated by Annabel. I have always loved the hitched up skirt/minidress and stocking top combo, and that pretty face could make any man melt. I can't remember much else in that issue, to be honest.

Continuing on the theme of hitched-up dresses, Vol. 23 No. 11 of Club from 1994 is another that really sticks in the memory. As a regular buyer of the title I was going to sweep it off the top shelf anyway, but if I had seen that cover of the delectable Sara St. James (going by the name Jacquie) pulling up her 1920s-style flapper dress to show off that tiny g-string and her delicious derrière on the cover of any other mag I would have snaffled it immediately.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...1465390564.jpg

Add to that the fantastic look over the shoulder, and those bright baby blue eyes looking at you as you started to get all hard and feel all funny down there. What made the cover even more compelling was her "request", in big white letters, to "come on her bum". Well, if a sexy girl makes such a demand, it is only right that any right-thinking man accepts it without question.

The wonderfully glossy covers were perfect wank targets of course, so long as you didn't shoot too far over the edge and risk catching the ends of the pages. I must have uploaded a good half a dozen times on that cover within the space of the first month I had the mag in my possession.

Knave 08.10 - 1976

One more Knave cover that grabbed me at the time.

http://ist3-2.filesor.com/pimpandhos...2801a%29_0.jpg

I remember thinking that this was a clever way to get a complete nude on the cover of a magazine. The 'period London' set inside didn't really live up to the promise of the cover. For my money, the best set inside was of Irma (Carolyn Evans), and this pic in particular still features in my imagination from time to time:

Scans of the whole mag are here (all credit to Mayfair1975).

I have posted a number of memorable covers already, and have seen plenty of fine examples shared by others. However, I thought I'd wait until now before revealing what is my own personal opinion the finest cover shot of all time, one that always stirs my loins, stiffens my rod and gets the little fellows swimming for the exit gate.

Wearing a tiny pink miniskirt and hitching up a leg to show off some perfect pink gusset, Stella aka Sophie Moone/Renata provides a view that almost had me cumming in my boxers as I reached up to the top shelf. I kid you not - when I got home I hardly had time to stroke my cock before I was decorating the walls, floor and heaven knows what else with hot baby batter.

http://thumbnails113.imagebam.com/46...3465865664.jpg

Nothing quite does it for me like a gusset shot, and this one is as perfect as one can get. The material is perfectly taut, showing off the twins horizontal seams of the knickers, hiding that delicious treat - which, of course, Stella shows off beautifully in the actual photospread - with the emphasis on "spread".

I have had many fantasies about this cover shot, and have often imagined the thought of rubbing my throbbing bellend hard on that taut material, feeling the gradual dampness as Stella's sweet juices begin to flow. Then, it's just a matter of pulling those now wet knickers them aside and sliding in, balls deep.

Oooh.

15? Crikey! When I was 15 I was not even five feet tall... Me reaching for the top shelf would have been a comical sight if I tried. Was your courage strong enough? Did you get the mag and manage to walk out of there?

Girlfan February 18th, 2016 08:40 AM

Three quite different ones today - what they have in common is that I bought all these magazines, and mainly because of the allure of the cover.

I was never much of a Mayfair man, myself. In fact, I think I only ever bought the old-style "classic" Mayfair once, and even when it was taken over by PRP, I only ever bought a handful, so it is surprising that I bought these two in 1993, a time when I was almost exclusively a Club buyer:
The first one shows this delightfully tempting shot of Louise Payne. I have always been a sucker for "bride" shots, and Louise's white underwear and exposed arse was just too much to resist - add to that her sexy, over the shoulder "come hither (or should that be cum hither?) look, and there was no way I could avoid buying this one.
http://img129.imagevenue.com/loc913/..._123_913lo.jpg

The next features blonde Rachel. Now, as well as not really being a Mayfair man, I'm not all that fussed about big tits, (I tend to live by the old dictum of "what doesn't fit in your mouth, or the palm of your hand is wasted anyway"), but her pretty - no, her beautiful face - and the way she tenderly clasps her breasts made the choice of buying this mag or not a no-brainer.
http://img176.imagevenue.com/loc421/..._123_421lo.jpg

Finally, back to another Escort cover: Escort was always a bit of a "bottom feeder" as far as the class rating of magazines went, but in the 80s and the first half of the 90s I loved it, and bought quite a few copies. The girls might not always have been a gorgeous as the fillies in Club, but they always looked fun, and the sort who would give you a great, no holds barred shag. Young Katie here graced the cover in Volume 14 Number 1, and her delightfully-presented rear (with a nice gusset shot for Sir Sharky) had me grabbing and handing over my £1.65 back in January 1994.

Sharkhunter February 18th, 2016 02:50 PM

Three fine covers there Girlfan, and thanks for the gusset shot! Escort was, as you say, a bottom feeder - though not as much as the "chav mag", Razzle - and while I would never have bought a copy, a cover like this would have made me look at least twice.

I remember that Rachel ter Horst cover... I think I actually bought this mag too, for the very same reasons as you did. Rachel was pretty popular on Page Three and was absolutely lovely, and while in the main I wasn't massively drawn by big tits those pretty baby blue eyes always did the trick.

Yes, a highly erotic cover! One of her first. There are not too many photos of Rachel playing with her boobs this way. Although the areolas have been airbrushed out. This version comes at least close to the original:

I was about 18 and saw this cover on the top shelf. The model looked just like a girl I knew and fancied something rotten so I bought the mag. Unfortunately she wasn't inside but I still have this mag to this day.
Unbelievably I have just had dinner with the girl that I fancied all those years ago and must admit that I couldn't help but remember that cover as we chatted tonight.

I walked in to pick up my regular copy of Club, and as my hand made its way nonchalantly to the top shelf my eyes caught the cover - a heavenly image of Claire Cass showing off some fine white gusset, giving me a sexy come hither look over her shoulder.

Claire Cass was a bit of an obsession of mine in the late 90s, I always thought she was absolutely stunning- at one point in about 1996/97, Mayfair featured her every single month, although oddly enough, I don't think she ever got to be the cover girl as such- they went through a period of having the main cover pic, a strip of headshots of all the girls in that issue across the bottom of the page, and a couple of smaller secondary pics from features in that month's mag.

It was those smaller pics where Claire tended to turn up on the cover, and in a few cases it was those that encouraged me to buy the mag even more than the main cover pic. I've always been partial to a bit of dressing-up and roleplay fun with my partners, and around that time Mayfair did a series of themed shoots of Claire stripping out of various 'classic' sexy outfits (IIRC they may have done a readers' vote to decide the themes of the shoots?)

31/11, Nov 1996: It might well have been Claudia in her red undies that first caught my eye,
but when I saw the smaller pic of Claire in her nurse's uniform, there was no way I was leaving that newsagents without a copy, and I'm pretty sure I was at home and producing a very healthy sperm sample for Nurse Claire within the hour...

http://thumbnails104.imagebam.com/21...6219035758.jpg

32/2 Feb 1997:- As I said, Mayfair did a series of these shoots with Claire, and featured one every month over the winter of 1996/7, and this was another favourite (and given his comments about Louise Payne's 'bride' cover shot from 1993 a few posts back, I suspect it might hit a spot for Girlfan as well). To be honest, as nice as Tina looks as the cover girl, by this stage, when I scanned the top shelf, I suspect I was looking for the side pic of Claire more than the main cover pic, and even though the pic isn't remotely revealing, the sight of Claire in a wedding dress was irresistible- the shoot itself was an absolute classic, which has inspired many a good wank over the years

http://thumbnails101.imagebam.com/21...b219042938.jpg

To be honest, I'm surprised that they never seem to have featured Claire as their main covergirl during that period- the shot of her on 31/11 dressed up as a nurse and flashing her undies and stockingtops would have made a cracking main cover pic in it's own right, which I'm sure would have had plenty of guys reaching for the top shelf to buy a copy...

I was 14 and wandering through the town centre when I saw this on the top shelf of a newsagent.

http://img248.imagevenue.com/loc424/..._123_424lo.jpg

I was completely dumbstruck and mesmerised, but the magazine was out of reach, in every sense.

This image was seared into my brain, where it remained for decades as the ultimate, unattainable erotic image. In my mind, it acquired mythic status as it seemed almost certain that I would never be able to track it down.

Even after the advent of the internet, I still struggled in vain to find my Holy Grail of horniness. Was it Men Only? Knave? Penthouse? All I could remember was that picture. I spent many a fruitless hour scouring this fine forum, but to no avail.

Eventually, I found it on Creamcheese. O happy day. It was even more intensely arousing than I remembered it.

Couldn't agree more.

I too loved Miss Cass, and am setting about re-creating a new mini collection of Mayfair where she featured as the regular girl. The magazine with her in the nurse's uniform is one of my favourites, and although I bought it for the Claudia cover (and photoshoot) that set is really memorable.

I liked that spell when they did the mini gallery on the cover... You could then see what the content was without having to leaf through the magazine - a boon in those newsagents with big signs saying "no browsing".

I was never a Knave collector, but when I picked up a stash a few years ago there were a number of issues from the 1970s and 1980s. After taking my picks, I put the rest up on eBid. I vaguely recall this one... Alas, it has long been sold.

Advertisements work!

I was a young reader of National Lampoon,
a magazine that satirized pop culture and
also contained cartoons.
My young mind was blown when
I saw this advertisement in its pages.
I remember, I was sitting in the living room with
my mother when I came to this page.
Or, should I say, almost came.

I went down to my favourite book and magazine store,
but this issue hadn't yet reached the stands.
Such anticipation and frustration!
I suppose I was able to buy it the next week.
Not my first copy of Penthouse, probably my second.

I was already developing a lust for rear ends,
but Sandi Greco got me hooked on plump buttocks,
dark areolae, furry cunts, nylon/stockings and pouty lips, too.
