View Full Version : Beauty versus desirability

Nice snappy title, huh?
Why do you like your favourite women, what makes them "special"?
When i was younger i went for big boobs, and a pretty face, as i got older my focus changed, long hair (especially with a centre parting), long legs, a nice rounded bottom, beautiful eyes, the usual suspects.
Now i find that although i still appreciate those things desirability has taken over from beauty.... here is an example...
This is Helen Worth, a British actress, born in 1951 and I'm sure you'll agree, not what most folk would consider, beautiful.

These are a few of my favourite celebs, Sarah Michelle Geller, Charisma Carpenter, Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Chalke.....

Four very beautiful women, I'm sure you'll agree, but although i find them all much more beautiful than Helen, i desire Helen a lot more than the other four.
And i don't know why.
So, the question, desirability or beauty...or both?

Once you go past just the image then you open up a whole different can of worms
Seen a few of her films I'd expect?Heard her voice?
A photographer can take almost any model and make themdesirable wether their beautiful or not
Classic suggestive poses like this one regardless of wether the subject was considered beautiful or not send a prettystrong signal

I'm a pretty shallow guy, and often beauty is directly related to desire-but I do get your point.I've often lined up pics of my favorites, and tried to find the common denominator.Oddly, it's long slender necks, and high cheek bones.Think Calista Flockhart, or Liv Tyler-but that's getting away from my point.
I agree when the two don't coincide, desirability trumps beauty. If a not so pretty woman has an air of sexuality, I'm captivated. My example is Sandra Bernhard.Ugly but sexy.
I'd pick a sexy woman over a plastic trophy woman with no sex appeal 9 x out of 10.

I know exactly where you're coming from, Sam. The way a woman carries herself will always be the greatest attraction to lasting appeal. The much beloved Hellen Mirren would be a quick example. I'll never forget the phrase, "Show me the most beautiful woman in the world and I'll show you a man who's sick of all her shit".
I've always been fascinated by the science of the human condition and the all the quirks associated with it. I've never seen it explained better than the documentary series "The Human Animal" by zoologist and ethologist Desmond Morris. It should be mandatory viewing in schools.

Rated 9/10 at IMDB. A monumental accolade considering this world of tough critics. Its a behavioral journey from birth to adulthood, including the what and why of attraction, body language, and choosing our partners from both male and female perspectives.

I totally agree with you about Sandra, physically she is not my type, way too skinny, rather loud and awkward, but she is as hot as hell, so desirable, i get the feeling that if you spent a night with her you would remember it for the rest of your life, and you would judge all other nights by that one.

First off can i say excellent thread then can i also say (And meaning no disrespect towards the lady concerned ) what the hell !!! , did you comb your hair with a lead cosh this morning or something Sam :D
Are really saying you desire Helen Worth more than Sarah Chalke ??? , how is that possible ?.
Why i`d desire eating a piece of actual chalk over spending a romantic moment with Helen Worth !
Personally i don`t believe this , it`s inconceivable to me that the renowned connoisseur of classic celebs could ever turn his back on the babe if given the option !.
Hey what if the choice was Jane Krakowski or Helen Worth , what would you do then ?. Eh ?, answer that and try to stay fashionable :D
I know why though , it`s because you`ve got a higher moral centre ;)
Now me i`m shallow , and i`m talking SHALLOW as in a fine mist over low ground shallow :D
Which is why i only desire cutie beauties such as Lacey Chabert (http://www.vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=29154&highlight=lacey+chabert)
Why do i like her so much ?, well apart from the fact she`s completely my type (But then most lovely looking still breathing females are ) she`s also currently not been overly successful and so i figure i have an outside chance with her ;)

Sorry man, I'd still be leaving my underpants on Helens floor.:p
Like i said, it's not beauty, it's not really even sexual attraction, it's ...it's...unexplainable. :o
Perhaps it's because i like strong, dominant women, or because Helen, and the character she plays seem more real than these perfect Hollywood babes.
Perhaps i need to go back onto that medication and shock therapy, who knows?

First of all, GreenSkull, when you say how unique Lacey Chabert is, well, you say that about just every girl you make a post on. "Oh this one is the best, or this one is great, or this one is the most beautiful" etc., etc. You're out of control. They're all the best according to you! Sure, they're all beautiful in their own ways...but calm down, boy! They can't all be the best! And Sam, I know what you mean...I find more common girls often a lot sexier than the most perfect, beautiful models. There's something about the eyes being a little off, or not quite as pretty, or whatever, that makes them as sexy as hell. I agree. But in your case, that broad....whoa! That's a little rough. You've crossed the line there, Sammy. But, as in music, as I always say..."if you like it, it's good". I'm not judging you, I've got my own perversions to deal with. So, best wishes with all that, carry on.

Also i picked Lacy for my example as i`d just then be congratulated on writing that thread in a way one wise fellow member found extremely funny
Meaning otherwise it could have been any of them , and i can write what i wish about the Celeb`s on my threads in the way i wish. Plus the point of an individual thread is to highlight how talented and amazing looking i believe the particular woman is . Anyway if you`d seen more of them you`d notice i tend to add the jokey proviso somewhere amongst all the pages ,saying something along the lines of how i`m more or less having to repeat what i`ve said previously on other actress threads .But then there are only so many ways to introduce a very beautiful actress without ending up using similar phrases , unless of course i start inventing my own language . But then some on here think i`ve done that already.
Oh and i`m always calm , spine chillingly so.

The word beauty is just an subjective opinion of looks. And looks will change over time, and so might your taste. I totally agree with Giacson that "The way a woman carries herself will always be the greatest attraction to lasting appeal." because that embodies her personality.
Sometimes I forget the looks of women I have had long conversations with on e.g. planes, but I still remember them for who they are, i.e. their personality. I guess what I'm saying is that looks are important to a certain degree, but personality is so much more important.

I'm just wondering Sam, did you have a thing for Helen Worth when she was younger? What I mean is, Adrienne Barbeau is one of my all-time favorites. I've met her three times and she's totally cool and, I think, still sexy as all get out. A friend of mine went with me to meet her once. We argued all the way home. "Yeah she was hot once, but now she's too old", he claimed. "You're totally wrong" I said. Obviously she doesn't look the way she did thirty years ago but I'd still pick her over most of today's hotties in a heartbeat.

No, not at all, it's only in the last few months that i have really taken a close look at her and added her to my favourites list.
Helen has definitely gotten better looking as she has gotten older...

Its always going to be desirability.
Beauty is a widely acknowleged thing. A woman can be beautiful and everyone will say so wether its her face, lips, eyes or figure or all combined.
Although real beauty is in the eye of the beholder desirability is the thing that is peculiar to you, its yours and yours alone - singular like your fingerprints or a snowflake
Desirability is usually close at hand too and not some pornstar, actress, celeb youre never going to meet. Desirability is what keeps you awake at night and you dont know why. Which is probably why it cant be defined and finds you looking at the Helen Worths of this world.

Ooohhh, touchy touchy! All I was saying, is that I've read many of your posts, and you most often state that the girl in particular is the best thing you've ever seen. Don't get your panties in a wad. I only made a comment on how you find practically every woman the ultimate, but let's not stress over that. Take a few deep breaths. I'm the same way, brother. I look at Charisma Carpenter and think.."oh my God, she's the one!", then I look at Sophia Loren and think "they're never be another", then Jennifer Garner, and I think.."oh no, kill me now!". The truth is, we'll never be satisfied. That's the way of a man. That's all I was saying, so stop yelling at me, ok?

I'd be a liar if I claimed that a woman's looks don't enter into it, but the fact remains, beauty ain't everything. I know dozens of beautiful women who are divorced -- most because their husbands had enough. If a woman is a psycho-bitch, the novelty of her looks will wear off very quickly.

No. no, Bonehead, there'll be no surrender here, my boy. I was being gracious towards you when I said I'd give you a pass. The term, "give you a pass", is actually a thing said among certain Italian American New Jersey/New York organizations meaning "we'll let you go, this time". You know, the kind of guys I grew up with. And still know. So, like I innocently said, you tend to rave over every woman you post as the best, you're all a'twitter. And that's fine, but in this case, this broad's a bow wow, and you know it, so cut the crap. I wasn't "surrendering" to anything, I was just asking you to stop going on about a chick that looks like she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Capisce?

This is a mind boggler. When I was young and idealistic I always looked for qualities. I looked for women who were bright, open minded and well read-that made them desirable to me. Many of them were not very sexually experienced and quickly established boundaries-which I respected: but lets face it, 1.5 years and never a peek below the belt-who is going to hang around for that???
I caved in my thirties and went for pure trophy. I dated some "dancers" and married a pair of bOObs-all natural F cups. Yes!!! Real triple D's. They were glorious to behold!!! Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum. It took a good three years for the shine of those sweater kittens to wear off-then I noticed her bottom!
As it turned out my bride was daft as a hairbrush, and a big ole rack, no matter how righteous, is no replacement for an intellectual equal. Fast forward through the divorce...
I am now dating the best combination of beauty and brains I could find. She turns heads when we are out, she is almost constantly horny, and we speak freely about science, theosophy, philosophy, you name it.
The moral of the story is: there needs to be a balance between "beauty" and "desirability"; don't marry boobs (look at them on VEF)!

she is almost constantly horny!
You`re not making any friends here , you do know that :D
True what you say though as man can not live by mere body alone , no there also has to be someone at home ;)
Hot but plenty of frontal lobe space to rent :(

The prime example of a woman who not beautiful in the accepted sense but is sexy as all hell, would be Vanessa Del Rio.

I used to live with a stunning and sexy woman: blonde, 6' tall, long legs, gorgeous ass, posh British accent, horny all the time, would ask for anal (!!), could cum really easily several times...
Trouble was she turned into a psycho over-possessive jealous bitch who tried to keep me under lock & key, practically. She developed a drinking problem and would fly into these insane drunk rages where she'd try to kill me. She came at me with knives, threw furniture at my head, and worse - all over stuff she just made up and wasn't real at all.
Luckily I got out of that situation alive, and moved across the country so she couldn't stalk me. All I can say is don't judge a book by its cover, and be careful what you wish for.

Curves rather than pretty faces will always attract men
Since when wasn't that clear?

All joking aside (What`d mean you never cracked a smile once !) this comes down to being an almost impossible question to answer. Because if you`re anything like me (And if so why weren`t you at the last sex addicts magnanimous meeting ?) your preferences can change at any given moment.
One minute i can be drooling with desire for a giggling girl in her early twenties , the next lusting after a well versed woman in her early forties.
Of course i get nowhere with either as the woman thinks i`m only after one thing

Say what you will, but it's the shape of a girl's body that attracts men more, and it's curves that practically all men like
Of course, men are programmed to reproduce and quite a few will do it with anything that opens its legs for them. Which means that not every girl they copulate with meets their ideal :D

Just read this thread from beginning to end and still am not sure what it is really about but i enjoyed reading it just the same. I picked desirability because like i said i dont really know what it is all about. Thought that maybe it meant beauty as in how a woman looks face wise and desirability meant the rest. Because i dont know about anyone else but a womans body can excuse a so so face. Saying that though my missus now has a so so face and a so so so noooooo body . Didnt used to be that way but after kids and ten years of sun bathing and full time eating she doesnt look how i remember . No she now looks like something i wish i could forget :):)

"men marry women thinking they will never change, women marry men thinking 'I can change him'"-don't know who first said this but it is spot on.
Before our divorce both the wife and I got a bit out of shape. We started working out together and soon quite a bit of passion returned; there was just something about the two of us bettering our bodies together that re-lit the flame (obviously it didn't last).
At the risk of, well, riskiness, I might respectfully ask how ole blatt's body has weathered the marriage and whether Mrs Blatt is having the same type of discussion on her Crocheting Forum:D?

Why you don't ask your friend Charles (i don't know if it's a VEF member and can read this) about his preference in desire over beauty?

My body has held up pretty well but then it is mostly made up of stodge :)
Doubt if Mrs B would ever bother discussing this sort of thing though as all her and her herd are interested in are phone in shows / buying stuff they will never need or fit into and online bingo :(
Desirability went out of our marriage long ago , now it is just a war of attrition :)
