TCM showed a documentary on Marion Davies as part of an all-day tribute to her. In it the distinguished British film historian Kevin Brownlow called Marion -- who kinda resembled a cross between Gretchen Mol and Virginia Madsen -- "the first screwball comedienne" and mentioned how rare it is for a beautiful woman to also be great at playing comedy.

What other actresses deserve to be called "Sexy AND Funny"?

I can think of at least one -- Paula Prentiss.

She seemed on the way to becoming a major star in the '60s when she had a breakdown that kept her offscreen for several years. She was never quite able to get her career completely on track again. But she is hilarious in What's New, Pussycat? as the intellectual stripper who keeps attempting suicide.

I'm not much of a fan of Christina Applegate (that sitcom Married with Children annoyed the living hell out of me) but I have always had a thing for Jane Krakowski--she was the best element of Alley McBeal. Granted, being the best part of a show as poorly written as Alley McBeal isn't saying much...IMHO, she was hillarious in National Lanpoon's Vacation; she had one of the funniest lines in the movie.
