Rolling Stones in their '72 Mick Taylor prime (first time I saw them was '78), the original Alice Cooper band (first time also '78), Queen (with Freddie and John), Ritchie Blackmore era Deep Purple, Hendrix, the original line-ups of the (Young) Rascals, CCR, The Doors, Sweet, Buffalo Springfield, and, of course, The Beatles. I have to specify "the original line-up" because so many of these bands are still touring with one or two original members and a bunch of sidemen.

I've been lucky enough to see most of my favourite bands live at some point, although not necessarily at their peak. I missed out when I was in Vegas a few years ago though because on the evening we were flying home, there was a triple header with Bad Company, Foreigner and Hootie and the Blowfish ... would have loved to be able to stay on for that gig.

I have been lucky in that I have managed to see a good number of top bands in my life. I'm afraid that I'm now down to just one or two a year. Age in taking it's toll.

However, if is was possible, I would travel anywhere in the world tomorrow to see
THE BEATLES.

I've been to hundreds of concerts, and it amazes me (and disappoints ) I've never seen AC/DC Some day I will.

Also, I wish I'd seen Randy Rhoads with Ozzy before he died.

Led Zeppelin in the early 70s, and Little Feat before the passing of Lowell George. I think I might have also enjoyed the Allman Brothers spin-off, Sea Level.

Would have been a wonderful way to welcome the new year, at the time.
Either then, or at Woodstock. I personally prefer 'Billy Cox' era Hendrix, but any live show would have been unforgetable.
The 'Gypsies' DVD is really good, although a lot of it is shot in Black and White. Thanks.

Hendrix.
Bon Scott-era AC/DC.
Uriah Heep in thelr early-70s pomp.
Deep Purple at any time before their original split.
The mighty Led Zeppelin at any time at all - I was fortunate enough to get to the 2007 reunion show, but would love to have seen them with Bonzo!

Good for you, imtrying, you're right, the Stones were in their prime with Mick Taylor. I saw them right after, at the Garden, with the 75 tour of the Americas...

Taylor was great with the boys, "Exile" is my favorite album by them. Ronnie Wood couldn't hold a candle to little Mick.

Sea Level named their last Capricorn album "Long Walk on a Short Pier" because Capricorn was in the process of bankruptcy when the album was being finished. In fact, it was never released in the US. Most copies found in the US were from Canada.

All three were found on the excellent "chezmateo" blog (unable to post link)

Most of my high school was just waiting for Zeppelin tickets to go on sale in for DC in 1980. I was looking forward to it, all of my friends were and we were in quite the funk when John died. In fact I think I am still in that funk 29 years later.

Pretty much every prog rock band from the 70s.

I've had the fortune of seeing Camel play on their last tour. I've seen Steve Hackett, playing some Genesis tunes. I've seen The Musical Box, a Genesis tribute band, three times. Each time doing different original Genesis tours.

But seeing all the awesome bands in their prime would have been a truly magical experience. I was born too late, indeed.

The Clash

Sure the Yardbirds with both Beck and Page in the lineup :)

I want to see how fast Alvin shreds it during Woodchoppers Ball. Amazing piece of music played with unbelievable speed and yet has complete control.

Unfortunately I didn't realise there was more to the Clash and Joe Strummer than London Calling and Rock the Casbah until after Joe died. I feel as though I might have missed something special.

TCO95,

The YardBirds

One of the best bands of all time. Never did get a chance to see them. Drat!

The Allman Brothers with Duane Allman

Actually got to meet Duane and a few of the others back in the early 70's when I was a roadie for another less well known band. Not a real big fan of theirs but they had one song that I really liked....... Jessica??? I think. Can't remember the name of the song but it was real long and the guitar interplay was exceptional.

Ten Years After

One of my all time favorites. Alvin Lee was one of the best guitarists of all time. He would just absolutely smoke that guitar.

For me, it was devistating when it happened but was also inevitable: David Lee Roth leaving Van Halen. I never was a big fan of 'Jump' or thier 'Van Hagar' stuff but I would've loved to have seen a show before they split up, say like circa their "Women & Children First" or "Fair Warning" releases. Those were the days... ugh, me ... sad! lol

This thread started with a pic of Alex Harvey, then someone mentioned Little Feat.

My three favourite bands in the world were The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Little Feat (with Lowell) and The Who.

Then one day around 1980 all three of them played on one day at Celtic Park, Glasgow, and I even got free tickets!!

Never saw the Beatles, or Hendrix, or the Doors. And I feel bad about that. But I did see Cream, the Who, Wilson Pickett, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Johnny Winter, Procol Harum, Randy Newman, the Stones, Jeff Beck, the Blues Project, Van Cliburn, Buddy Guy, BB King, Dylan, Lou Reed, the Vanilla Fudge, Tori Amos, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, Mountain, the Jefferson Airplane, etc., etc., so I don't feel too bad.

I would love to have seen Australia's own 'Sons of a Vegetal Mother' in the 70's,
at the legendary T.F. (Too Fvckin) Much Ballroom in Melbourne.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sons_of_the_Vegetal_Mother
They were largely inspired by Frank Zappa and the Mothers.
Sadly they didn't do too many recordings, and were better known as 'Daddy Cool' (the same band renamed used to do a novelty set, as their own support act).
Strangely they had some success as Daddy Cool, with only the second side of there second L.P. "Sex, Dope and Rock n' Roll : Teenage Heaven", showing any hint of their true genius.

I have seen (and met) "Spectrum" a few times.
Spectrum featured the 'Vegetals" Bassist (My Crudd) as a Singer/Guitarist.
They had a similar concept, as "the Indelible Murtceps" (Spectrum spelt backwards), for their humorous material.

That was a weird tour in terms of gigs... It went through London four times... and Birmingham twice... The booking guy must have been completely wasted! Started in Sheffield on May 16, and didn't end until Hammersmith Odeon on June 19... Over a month... nowadays you'd be lucky to get a couple of Sabbath shows every ten years!

They played Birmingham Odeon on June 5,6, 12 & 13... but not all with VH...

The 70's incantation of the Eric Burdon Band that released "Sun Secrets" and the rare "Mirage" albums.
For some reason Mr. Burdon despises these recordings, while I like "declares War' and many of the Animals recordings I consider the 'heavier' material to be his best work.
Sun Secrets was in fact the first Eric Burdon album I heard.
I was expecting more.

Yep! I saw them in the seventies. The same weekend I saw Pink Floyd's "Pompei" film.
Skyhooks were great. At one stage they bought out a huge fake red 'mushroom' with white spots and were making all these jokes, such as is it circumcised?
Then it had an orgasm! Fred Strauk's is a great drum soloist.

Even though I've seen them at least 40 times since I first saw them in Hull in 1984, right up to a couple of weeks ago at the 40th Anniversary Happening in London, I'd still love to have seen Hawkwind on the Space Ritual Tour. Sadly I was only 7 at the time. Listening to the album, it was a cohesive journey from Liftoff to Touchdown - Nothing comes near it for me. As Lemmy once said, " People thought Hawkwind were all about Peace & Love but live we were a Black Fucking Nightmare!! " If you haven't heard it I suggest you check it out.

Ahh. The Leeds Irish Centre. Quite possibly the best venue in Leeds. 2 good get served quick bars, great sit down & watch bit at the back & a decent sized floor in front of the stage. Always a good sound & the venue of some of my best Hawkwind gigs. Also seen Rory Gallagher, Stiff Little Fingers & Wilko Johnson with John Otway amongst others there. Always worth the 100ish mile round trip from Hull.

Van Der Graaf Generator. I saw them in 2005, but it wasn't the same. One of my friends saw them at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens in the 70s, and I am really envious.

Cockney Rebel, before the first split. I was trying to see them at Cleethorpes (again), but couldn't manage it.

Bowie as Ziggy. I don't think there was ever a chance of this.

I would have liked to see the Moldy Peaches as well.

Frank Zappa. I only started really liking him in the last year of his life; now I look at all the places he played in the 80s, and think - that's only a mile from my flat, I could have got there easily.

On the other hand, I've seen the Fall most years since 1978 (once at the Leeds Irish Centre - you're right, it is a great venue - with various aunties and Uncles and Cousins, and they all liked them), so I can't complain.

i've seen Pink Floyd twice but i wish i'd seen them with Syd Barrett - or at least when they perform Echoes open air in London mid 70s.. (afaik they've raised a big octopus imitation out of the sea which causes a little panic :D )
i've seen the Police but i wish i'd seen them before they filled the big halls (big halls suck, i prefer club concerts.)
i've seen Van der Graaf Generator but i wish i'd seen them in the 70s rather than last year

Saw The Zombies in a club seating no more than 200 in Tallahassee, Florida several years back...Colin Blunstone, Rod Argent...closed my eyes and I could easily have been transported back to 1965. That fulfilled one "wish I had seen..."

Others never to be fulfilled: Animals, Hollies, would have loved to see Roy Orbison in his prime...oh, and Flash & the Pan, had they toured.

Did see the Kinks at least fifteen times though!

I've been to hundreds of concerts, and it amazes me (and disappoints ) I've never seen AC/DC Some day I will.

Also, I wish I'd seen Randy Rhoads with Ozzy before he died.

I remember I was supposed to see AC/DC at The Califfornia World Music Festival (yes, the concert title had 2 f's in California) in 1979. They cancelled at the last minute. Guess who took their place? The Boomtown Rats with Bob Geldof. I also saw Aerosmith and Van Halen that day along with UFO, Eddie Money, Toto and a group called Brownsville.

Nantukket Sleigh Ride..........Awsome track.

Bands I saw mid 70's but would have liked to have seen them earlier.

Pink Floyd post Darkside of the moon
Camel
Yes
Genesis just post Gabriel sadly, and we thought Collins was going to be a saviour!!.......he should have stuck to the drums

The Who
Lindisfarne.

Bands I never got to see at their peak and proly never will

Led Zep
Rush
ELP
Wishbone Ash
Focus
The Moody Blues

In general I am no fan of tribute bands or revival bands but I have seen the early 70's Genesis shows as performed by 'The Musical Box' and they are superb.

J. Geils Band (mid 70's)
Bill Evans (c. 1961, before Scott LaFaro's death)
Don Ellis (late 60's)
Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf (50's)

Without doubt The Police or The Jam when I was younger-the raw energy that used to be generated by Sting and the anger that came out of Paul Weller really summed up the beginning of the 80's and whilst the Jam are now two(Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler went on tour earlier this year) The Police was the best concert band last year on their comeback/farewell world tour-can you see that happening with bands now 10 years from now?

Of the four members I believe two have died.
I'm not sure whether Drummer John Halsy died in 1979, or is running a pub. I only hope he knows.
Last I heard, Bassist Clive Griffiths doesn't remember a thing about his time with the band due to a serious car accident in which he was paralyzed.

Ollie Halsell was way ahead of his time and a very gifted musician, as was Mike Patto. (RIP)

although i did have tickets (this past july) and was planning on going to the show but i had a hockey championship tournament in vegas i had to play. it wasnt a huge loss not seeing STP as i heard they were late LATE to the stage and scott weiland with some "musicians attitude" was the reason why they were late and got Booed

Correct he will never come to Gods country so i had to go and see him in London on his "farewell world tour" in London at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2007.

What a concert. Came on, sang for two hours, one encore then away. No pis-ing about just a very enjoyable night. He played all the songs you would want to hear.:thumbsup:Full house and people had come from all over the UK.

I would have like to have seen Tull around 1968, with Glenn Cornick on Bass and Mick Abrahams on Guitar.
They did reform in 2001 briefly.
No need to dress as old men anymore ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDK55Ypcpyg&feature=related

Happy to say Tull are still going strong on the small tour circuit. I have seen them 8 times in the past 7 years, unfortunately not this year.

Ian Anderson still looks and sounds great albeit his voice no longer has the range it once did. Martin Barre is still there playing a great guitar. During last years tour Jeffrey Hammond was guesting for a couple of shows. The last one I saw Fish was guesting.

All the very best to some decent guys.

Don't mean to be picky, but that ain't the original Kraftwerk. The band started in 1970 and at various times included real drums and real guitars, before they went all-electonic in '73. They had an international hit album in '74 with Autobahn. The 80s Kraftwerk that was so popular was practically at the end of their career.

Thanks tamsmith. I have a copy of "Living With the Past", featuring recent remakes mostly from soundboard recordings, which is definately worth a listen.
For some perverse reason, I usually latch onto albums that were not overly well received. "Benefit" was one of my first aquisitions as a teenager, and remains one of many personal favourites.
"This Was" is particularly special in my opinion. I also enjoyed much of what 'Blodwyn Pig' offered also.
.. I'll have to catch 'Tull one of these days.

Most of the music I like is from the '60s and '70s so I was far too young to see any of these groups.
The Byrds circa 1970
The Monkees when Jimi Hendrix was briefly their opening act
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones with the original lineup
The Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor
The Grateful Dead at their height. I'm not that big a fan but I'm sure it would an interesting experience.
The Who with Keith Moon. That would be great.

Never saw the Jam but I did see the police many times - they were phenomenal. Sting could deliver a fair amount of anger at times (particularly summer of 1982) but there were times when he was hilarious on stage and a long way from the earnest/muso reputation he now has.

Having said that I was just too young to see the sex pistols in their original glory or led zeppelin around 1975 or pink floyd do the wall in 1980.

I have never seen Led Zep despite trying over the years and things always getting in the way.

I have seen the Who, but only without Moon the loon, they were still brilliant but I treasure my Live at Leeds limited edition with CD2 having the entire 'Thomas' opera live from Leeds.

I have never seen Focus, I bet they were great back in 1973 on the Moving Waves or Hocus Pocus tours.

I have seen on many many times Genesis, Yes, Lindisfarne, Ocean Colour Scene..........and ...cough<Gary Glitter> cough........he put on a great camp xmas show.....alright!....just let it drop...ok. :D

I think the music back then was ten times more rebellious than the rubbish of today, it all sounds the same. In the punk era or post punk as the Police were you could instantly recognise their tunes and you could throw yourself about the room or leap about with your mates at school and feel it was YOUR music.

I was at the Fillmore East in March of 1971 when the Allman Brothers recorded their Live at the Fillmore East album, but I had so many illegal substances floating around in my bloodstream that the whole experience is like a dream now.

I would sure love to go back and see it again.

At least you've got the album to listen to.

Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy.
I have been a fan since childhood, i was only 15 when Phil passed so never got to see the great man live. I have seen all the other band members play live, even met some too but was never lucky enough to see the man himself.

Almost too many to mention! But I've managed over the last few years to cross quite a few off the list thanks to various reformations and the like...but here goes with the ones I wish I had seen!

Talking Heads (seen David Byrne solo, and he did do a few Heads songs, but it's not quite the same!)
The Clash
The Stranglers (with Hugh Cornwall as the lead singer, having seen the current line-up a couple of years ago)
Sex Pistols
XTC
Human League
Split Enz or Crowded House
The Jam
Blondie
The Go-Go's (had a ticket to see them back in 2001, but post 9/11 this got cancelled)

Managed to cross Madness and the Specials off my wish list this year, but think there's only a couple more off the list above that I'll be able to add!

Since I took them out of the storage bins and into the CD changer a month or two ago I've been thinking how much I should've gone to see John Mellencamp's band with the core core linup from about the mid-80s into the early 90s.

Listening to those songs again after quite a period of time I'm impressed by what a productive period of song writing it was for them. They didn't rely on production gimmicks in the studio either - what they recorded there they could play live. And play live they did, nearly always touring hard over those years.

My biggest complaint with the band is that while they had two superlative rhythm guitarists in Mike Wanchic and Larry Crane neither of them rarely ever came up with a great solo that locked in with any of the songs.

And as an odd aside, they never released a live album/CD during those years although I suppose there's an imense amount of decently recorded bootleg stuff of them out there (I've never bothered to go looking for it).

Pink Floyd - I've see the Aussie Floyd a few times and they're brilliant. I can only imagine how good the actual Floyd would have been.

I wish I'd have got to see Nirvana live. I had a ticket to a show at Brixton Academy, but that never happend because Kurt topped himself (selfish git :D )

I'd also liked to have seen Guns N Roses around 1992, but never got the chance. I have no desire to see the Axl fronted tribute act that passes for them these days.

Last on my list (I've seen everyone else I'd really like to see and am crossing the last of them off this year in April when I see Meat Loaf) is White Zombie/Rob Zombie. No chance of seeing White Zombie now and Rob's shows sell out too fast for me. Maybe one day!

I remember Wilco played Belfast when they were still underground. It was in a tiny upstairs lounge of a pub. When I heard they had played I was gutted. I have seen them since but not in a tiny space.

Er, make that Roger Waters? There's nowt wrong with DG?

I saw Floyd on their Animals tour. Sounded fine but deadly dull and impersonal in the depths of Earls Court.

The ones I missed:
Sex Pistols (had the chance but gastro-enteritis put a stop to that)
Billy MacKenzie (at Ronnie Scotts)
Roxy Music (with Eno)
King Crimson (Lark's Tongues line up)
Mott the Hoople (with Mick Ralphs)
Free
Hawkwind (Space Ritual/Lemmy line up)

But we had a good local scene and I saw a couple of wellknown swedish bands.

Wow - this thread has woken up this month. Been lucky enough to see Floyd twice - great show & agree that RW is the miserable fuck not DG!

Guns n Roses (when they were a band) awesome all 3 times I saw them. Wouldn't pay anything to see them now. Sorry exfarmer - Lizzy with Lynott in 83 were the tops! The whole 80's metal scene was great - I practically lived at the Marquee / Rainbow / Hammersmith / Lyceum / Electric Ballroom for quite a few years.

The ones I missed - Clash, AC/DC with Bon Scott, UFO (with Schenker), Dr Feelgood, Bowie early 70's (I was 10 !)

Dr Feelgood (with Wilko) were a GREAT night out as were the Clash until they decided they wanted to be the Stones mk II.

I never saw Thin Lizzy but I did have a couple of pints of Guinness with Phil Lynott at the Fulham Greyhound one lunchtime many many years ago when I was roadie-ing for a band playing there. We were the only two in the bar and I remember him being thoroughly nice, wearing his army cherry red 'tunic' and not being as tall as I thought he was going to be (that I'm 6'5" may have something to do with the latter) :)

I would have also have like to have seen Genesis with Gabriel on their 'Selling England' tour, when they were still playing 'Supper's Ready'

1. The Beatles. But they broke up when Ded Bob was 3.

2. Small Faces. I really would have liked to have seen the perform Ogden's Nut Brown in entirety. But they never did.

3. The Cowsills. Okay, just kidding.

4. Olivia Newton-John circa 1975. I could watch her all day.

5. Cream.

6. The Who. Somehow I missed them each of the few times some variation came through town.

Popular Bands/Act I never saw and don't care to either.

A. Led Zeppelin. First never had the chance. Second, everything I've ever seen or heard of them live really hasn't wowed me.

B Eagles. Not really a fan. In fact Don Henley's solo work is annoying to me.

C. Aerosmith. I liked a lot of what they did through their break up in the late 1970s. I really, really wished they'd have stayed broken up. Everything they have done since then has been utter crap to me.

D. Elvis. Just not a fan.

E. U2. A band I just don't get. I liked some of their early stuff, but nothing since the WAR album.

F. Boston. Maybe because they get more freakin airplay now than they did in 1977. Really, I'm so sick of hearing their stuff right now. I'm not exaggerating, the stations here play their material in heavy rotation. Somebody could make a drinking game out of the situation.

BANDS/ACTS I saw and thought weren't that great

a. Nazareth. During the Cinema tour in Germany back in the 1980s. They were a shell of themselves. Saw them again in the late 1990s as they were on tour with BOC, April Wine, and a couple of others and I figured I'd suffer through it. They were great later. I guess I'm chalking the 1980s to a rough patch.

b. Bob Dylan/Neil Young. Not a double bill. But for the same reason. Young in 1988/89 at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas. Did first set acoustic. Couldn't understand a word he said, barely recognized any of the songs he played. He mumbled the entire time and his guitar playing was shit. Second set was electric with a band. But he was still off. I think he was stoned or drunk or something. It was embarrassingly bad. Dylan was about the same time. I sat through the whole thing and couldn't understand what he mumbled either. I left not knowing if he played anything I knew or not. It all kind of sounded like he kept playing the same 2 or 3 songs over and again.

c. Radiohead. American Airlines Center in 2012. The stage/light show was nice. I don't think these guys can play their instruments or they had major audio technical problems. There should not be constant feedback and cracking.

d. Chic. The disco group. I ended up going with a girl friend who wanted to go. I had heard Le Freak and Good Times a few years earlier. They played those. . . . .and a bunch of cover tunes. It was my first "meh" moment at a live performance.

e. Ratt. 1986 or 1987 Mosters of Rock in Germany. Their lead singer was horrid. The rest of the band was tight. But that guy sings like Godzilla in heat while huffing helium. It was painful and embarrassing. Maybe he ruptured a vocal chord or something. I don't know.

"The Wall" always felt like the one that got away as regards concerts. However, the tour will be here (Dublin) in a few months and I have tickets for it :) Saw it on You Tube and it looks great! Don't know how true it is but I read recently that this is the last time it will tour so, if true, definitely glad I got tickets.

Saw Guns 'n' Roses when they were at their height when they played at Slane (open air venue in Ireland). When Faith No More, the last of three support acts, finished and went off, everyone expected the usual 30 minutes or so before the main act came on. Over two hours later they came on (to a slow clap from the audience) and, to be honest, just went through the motions - it was obvious they weren't really up for it. Heard later on that it was because Axl Rose had a temper tantrum backstage and refused to go on.

He did the same thing not too long ago when he played Dublin - a 9pm show that he started after 10.30 and then stopped after a few songs and walked off and wouldn't come back on until after midnight.

Eric Clapton played in 2011 on what was probably one of the wettest days of the year. Didn't go myself as I had seen him before but apparently he came on wearing a hoodie and sunglasses, obviously didn't want to be there, didn't talk to the audience at all, played for barely an hour and then just walked off without a word. The support band were still playing thinking he was coming back but he never did. People paid a lot of money for tickets, waited in the rain for hours for him and then get that sort of s**t - would put me off ever seeing him again.

However, I have seen some great shows too. Neil Young with Crazy Horse remains one of my favourites over 20 years later - fantastic night!! Tom Waits was another great show, as was Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Mike Scott and the Waterboys, Elton John. Also saw Pierre Bensusan twice in my local theatre and spoke to him afterwards - a very pleasant man and very interesting about music and life topics generally.

Have seen U2 several times and seeing them on their home turf is always something special - have bumped into Bono and The Edge a couple of times as they live not too far from me.

Never got to see Thin Lizzy but would have loved to - I grew up about a mile from where they lived in Dublin.

Concert tickets here have become so expensive that I have to be very selective about who I go to see but still hope to see many more good acts yet.

Glancing through this thread seeing a LOT of mentions of the Beatles and though they are my favorite band I wouldn't have wanted to see them live, except MAYBE at one of the gigs at the Cavern right after Ringo joined and that's only a few dozen shows.

Everything before that and you're seeing a band that doesn't really know what the fuck it 's doing yet and what it means to be a band or is acting like dickheads on stage, as happened many nights when they were working in the various clubs on the Reeperbarn.

After the Cavern gigs you have Beatlemania hitting the world with tsunami level force, and thus whatever music the Beatles were playing during a gig is drowned out by the jet engine level shrieks of the teenage girls, then you add in the Beatles on later tours not giving a shot about whether or not they were playing in tune because the fans couldn't hear them anyway.

MAYBE the gig atop the Apple building.

Maybe.

I would have loved to have seen The Jam performing live during the british punk explosion of 1977, it was such a raw and energetic musical era the likes of which we have never seen since, to have seen them blurting out songs such as 'In The City', 'The Modern World', 'All around the world' would've been great, i think most of their fans would probably prefer the later hits such as 'A town called malice' in the early 80's but it was their earlier rebellion that definitely caught my attention.

As i've only seen their live performances on dvd plus hearing some tracks recorded live i'm sure The Jam had the potential to blow the roof off any building they performed music in.

Wings Over America 1976 tour. I bought album and it was fantastic. I would say The Beatles but I was just an infant at the time and if I had been old enough I probably wouldn't have been able to hear over the screaming teeny-boppers.
SuperTramp would have been great to hear too.
Van Halen w/David Lee Roth
Pink Floyd
Stevie Wonder
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Billy Joel circa 1980's
I know my taste in music is eclectic and I'm proud of that

Great point about The Beatles. (See my post on this thread) My fav group of all time too. I think the rooftop concert would have been the best one to see because you could probably hear them (although the concert was cut short by the fuzz).

I saw Mick and Keef and the rest of the gang at Knebworth in 76, 2 hours late, supposed to come on at 10 pm. Finally on stage at midnight!
Keef ambled to the front of the stage with a three-quarters finished bottle of Jack Daniels and then decided to get serious.
A year later, he got away by the skin of his green and rotting fangs to doing some serious time in the pleasure of Canadian hospitality.
Saw them twice in 82 at Bristol football ground and Roundhay Park in Leeds, after Keef (Sort of) cleaned his act up. Top gigs, especially the Leeds one.
100,000 happy people.

I've always wanted to see Faith No More. I'm encouraged because they got back together, but they never seem to come close to me. I think they are underappreciated for their time.

Megadeth. I've always been a fan of GOOD thrash and was a Metallica head in my teens but overlooked Megadeth in my younger days and just got into them a few years back. OMG! I made a mistake missing out on these guys.

I got to see them about half a dozen times - I saw them 2 or 3 times when their first album came out and got to meet them then as well - trying to explain that there really weren't any chip shops in central Cambridge in 1977 took quite some time . They were very, very good but for sheer energy, the Clash were in a league of their own around that time, and the original Ramones were awesome as well.
As for the Jam, I think the best gig I saw was again in Cambridge where they did a 'secret' gg at the Corn Exchange which was arranged at short notice as a live rehersal, announced on chalkboards placed around the town 24 hours or so before the concert that took place immediately before their US tour - must have been around the 'Setting Sons' album I think, but might have been All Mod Cons?

Didn't the Waters wall tour go through Austin and Houston not too long ago? I passed.

Well, the Beatles, of course. Never saw Hendrix, either. Seems like I still can't, even though he's still releasing albums....

Of course I did get to see, oh...the Who, Cream, Procol Harum, Randy Newman, the Stones, Dylan, BB King, Johnny Winter, Mountain, Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company...(Sam Andrew and I are actually friends)...

Then I saw...and also met...Lou Reed, several times, (who was a little gay for me back then, but no...I don't walk that that way), Buddy Guy, Alan Jackson and Steve Morse...(built them airplanes), Chuck Berry, (met him in a White Castle), the Vanilla Fudge, (Tim Bogert lived near me, and Carmine Appice was a real nice guy), Tower of Power, (Lenny Pickett, of TOP and leader of the SNL band wanted to jam with me), and uh...oh, who was it....

Oh yeah, Jeff Beck. Saw him and had a conversation with him in Houston.

So, I guess I can't complain....

The Jeff Beck quote reminds me of a recommendation of his. An Irish singer (from Dublin) called Imelda May whom Jeff brought over to the US specially to act as his support act. She is still recording and touring and I would recommend that you go see her if you get the chance - great music and fantastic voice! Check her out on You Tube.

If you can't see her live then at least treat yourself to her albums - you won't regret it!
