I'm guessing there would be quite a few members who were teenagers in the 80's and 90's for that matter, back when music videos started to really take off and watched as much MTV as possible, back when it was cool. I'm sure we all had our favorites. Hope members post their favorites, and reasons why they liked them.
PS, links to approved websites only, ie youtube.........

Here are my 3 favorites

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cold Shot

This one was so outrageously camp (it leaves a boy scouts jamboree effortlessly in its wake in the ''camp'' stakes) that it cracks me up every time I even think about it. All over Middle America people had palpitations: people wailed faggots!!!, burned Freddie Murcury in effigy, called in exhorcism priests and generally didn't cope all that well.

In Britain, we recognised the satire on Coronation Street for what it was, pissed ourselves laughing, and the whole cross-dressing thing seemed about as terrifying as the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella. Incidentally, its also a rather good track.

Face to Face ~ "Under The Gun"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpWTTnBSTfs&feature=related

Face to Face was a new wave Boston, Massachusetts quintet. Guitarist Stu Kimball formed the band in New Hampshire during the late '70s with a close group of talented friends. They moved to Boston in 1980 and were signed by Epic Records in 1982. Their highest reaching single was "10-9-8" from their self-titled first album, which peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. They disbanded in 1988, approximately one year after switching labels to PolyGram Records. Laurie Sargent went on to record as a solo artist and is currently part of Twinemen.

The Attackers were the real-life band-mates of Laurie Sargent, who provided the singing voice for Ellen Aim. Their band was called Face to Face and they played mainly "new wave" music around the Boston area. The group split up in 1988.

The title came from a song written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen on his album "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". Original plans were for the song to be featured on the film soudtrack but when Springsteen found out the song would be rerecorded by other vocalists, he withdrew permission for the song to be used.

Same thing happens to me Tab , seems to have come into force in the last several months and it`s damn frustrating  .Also one of the reasons i don`t contribute to "What are you currently listening to " as nowadays it takes so long to find a video to go with the song the actual things over and i`m six tracks down the line

Ok now for my next performer , who`s yet another supremely talented singer songwriter . Yet one some may find a bit echoey (If that`s even a word ?) sounding in so far as her voice goes ,but i like her muchly (Now that`s definitely not a word ) :D

Trying to find the proper version of Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer was nigh on impossible (some members would probably think and a good thing too:D but we all have our own eclectic musical tastes:cool:); however there were no end of truly unspeakable bastardised cover versions on youtube. There isn't enough live ammunition in existence to deal properly with the perpetrators of this artistic crime.

And I haven't even said a word about the mindboggling awfulness of the videos to which this song is being set. All bad enough to blow any self respecting LCD screen. Youtube have never heard of quality control as a concept.

I didn't bother with links, as either the music is missing for copyright reasons, or the videos are so well known as to beg the question, what's the point?

My faves in order:

Golden Earring: Twilight Zone
Micheal Jackson: Thriller (featuring the immortal Vincent Price)
Janet Jackson: Escapde
Young MC: Bust A Move
ZZ Top: Gimmie All Your Lovin'

Also, I have at least 3 versions of Emmy Lou Harris singing "Two More Bottles of Wine." None are actually music videos; but instead, live performances on various TV shows.

Finally, the trailer for the Rap mockumentary "Fear of a Black Hat" features a Snoop Dogg knock-off called "Ice Foggy Frog" that is just delicious.

Guys Ive been trying to post a youtube link to one of my favourite vids but it comes up 'not available in your country' so you will have to google it yourselves!

In the ninties I was addicted to a video on the windows 95 computer disc, I did a bit of detective work on google and found out it was called 'Goodtimes' by Edie Brickell and released by Geffen record.

Look this up folks, I promise you wont be disapointed. (once again sorry I cant post a youtube link,I tried)

Ps-Superb thread mv.

Thanks to tabler for reminding me how good this track was back then. I was also one of those who kept playing it over & over again at the time:) Then, yesterday, I came across an old Windows 95 installation CD-ROM in the attic and remembered this post.

So here are two versions I've done of Edie Brickells - "Good Times". First there is the original sized one as it appeared on the disc and then a reformatted version I did from that. Hope these are O.K.

This dude is as humble a guy as you'd ever hope to meet.He says he's going to sing opera, and you could just see the judges want to laugh. He proceeds to blow the nuts right out of Simon's lap, and at 1:57, I think Amanda had a gasm.

Even if Opera isn't your thing, this is inspiring.

There's really nothing special about this video. It's just that it presents a refreshingly iconoclastic song perfectly and when I first saw it in 1980 I thought it was too cool for school. I still think so now.

I especially savoured the exquisite lines:

Its cheesy and you can hardly accuse her of creative originality, but she does the whole thing with energy, enthusiasm and very slickly. I could do without the ''Howard Hughes'' backstory bit at the start; its the actual routine I enjoy uncritically because it is what it is. Madonna at her best I think, good looking, stylish and enjoying the limelight without being all ''arty'' about it.

From the album Like A Virgin way back when Madonna was an honest entertainer who sang quite well, danced quite well and was very pleasing on the eye and not a global marketing phenomenon as she is now.

from lemondrop.com ........ We're just gonna come out with it: This clip is amazing. Some editing genius named Ricardo Autobahn had the incredible idea to make a song out of ... movie clips. Now before you start imagining some medley you'd watch at the Oscars, let's talk about the fact that this guy's managed to string together the clips in a way that rhymes AND has a beat.

We've been playing our own personal game of Guess the Movie and nodding our head to the rhythm for about 20 minutes now. Join us in watching and try to imagine just how much time this guy had to invest in movie-watching to put this together. The mind boggles. Enjoy!

Very rare for me to even know a recording artist exists if he/she has not already retired or been active for at least 10 years. I accidentally found out that someone called Taylor Swift exists when I saw a stray news feature on MSN News covering a really gross and astonishing affront she received from Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Awards (hey, I was barely conscious that something called the MTV Awards happens from time to time).

Last Monday I had my hair cut, which I do whenever it no longer fits easily inside my motorcycle helmet, and because there was a bit of a wait before I could get into the barber's chair, I was forced to notice my surroundings. There was MTV on a TV monitor perched high up in a corner, I can get MTV at home but its a channel I generally avoid like I avoid anthrax biscuits. However, a surprisingly pleasant song allied to a surprisingly charming and sweet (if extremely cliched) video came up. After about a minute I realised this was the video Kanye West couldnt stomach for having won MTV's best female video 2009 award: this alone is enough to make me think the video is cool. But actually, you know what? This video is OK.:)

Besides I am always a sucker for a pretty girl with a nice voice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuNIsY6JdUw

NB: ''She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers...'' Apparently the bleachers are the tiers of raised seats high up in the stadium: Taylor is a face in the crowd and her rival has privileged access to the hero of the football team.

Try this.

I went through 50 odd pages of related programmes on the "Useful Programmes" thread here, after vixynet stopped "allowing" sound to their downloads.
It's allows better quality downloads than vixy, but unfortunately still needs converting with a programme such as SUPER http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html before you (I?) can burn it to disc.

Thunder Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3J-JGO24bo)

The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road, sit tight take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win.

Thanks T

Eric Clapton...

Eric Patrick Clapton (born 30 March 1945), nicknamed “Slowhand”, is a Grammy Award winning English composer, singer and guitarist who became one of the most respected and influential artists of the rock era, garnering an unprecedented three inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Clapton is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in popular music history.

http://img235.imagevenue.com/loc522/th_97189_Eric2Clapton_122_522lo.jpg (http://img235.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=97189_Eric2Clapton_122_522lo.jpg) http://img240.imagevenue.com/loc43/th_97191_Eric1Clapton1_122_43lo.jpg (http://img240.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=97191_Eric1Clapton1_122_43lo.jpg) http://img18.imagevenue.com/loc215/th_97192_Eric9Clapton19812_122_215lo.jpg (http://img18.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=97192_Eric9Clapton19812_122_215lo.jp g)

His musical style has undergone multiple changes during his career, but has always remained rooted in the blues. Clapton is credited as an innovator in several phases of his career, which have included blues-rock (with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and The Yardbirds), early single hit “Come With Me” by The Roosters, blues-hard rock (with Cream), and work as a sideman and a solo artist; he has achieved chart success in genres ranging from delta blues (Unplugged) and psychedelic rock (Sunshine of Your Love) to pop (Change the World) and reggae (I Shot the Sheriff).

Eric Clapton was also a close friend of George Harrison of the Beatles. It is believed that he wrote his song Layla about Harrison’s wife.
“Tears in Heaven” was written after his son’s tragic death.

Somehow & for some reason, I remembered this one today. It's another one of those in the catagory of the most expensive video ever made (thus far ) - quoted at an astounding $5million Warner Bros shelled out to video producer Mark Romanek. This is the last time i thought Madonna was producing good music (Tho, It was actually Nellee Hooper deserving production creds & the song written by Bjork :o:D)
Oddly, this track was not a success in the US, but I think it is one of her finest (she still looks good here too ;))

This is one of the most astonishing collection of images & audio put together. IMO

But let's get serious. The upcoming videos do not necessarily reflect my taste in music. I just think the videos are creative:

Hugh Cornwell - Another Kind of Love (directed by Czech master Jan Svankmajer)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8htGU0_Fxk

Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again

I like the long version better but can't find it. :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O83sZV360A

Depeche Mode - Behind The Wheel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBxyhNdevoY&feature=relmfu

Most of the best DM videos were directed by Anton Corbijn.

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

Alice In Chains - Rooster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAE6Il6OTcs

The Cure - Just Like Heaven

This one ain't creative at all but funny:

I have always quite enjoyed The Breeders - Cannonball.

Those were great times...1993 was the height of alternative rock...lots of very diverse bands emerged and broke through the old, stagnant, stupid MTV formula. MTV actually cared briefly for a moment about music (before completely turning to crap quickly after Cobain died and Pearl Jam stopped making videos)

The Breeders were great at that time. Kim Deal was amazing and the video was directed by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth

Time to take a journey, a journey back in time.

The place is Pforzheim in the then West Germany. The date is August 30th 1987.

Davemetalhead's first gig :D

First up, we have the Tuetonic metal meisters Helloween with "Halloween" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOAl0enE7kI) (albeit a shortened version).

Onstage next were Cinderella, here with "Somebody Save Me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUkqBRC1zUA&feature=artist). I still remember seeing the guitars being whipped around the necks of the guys on stage.

Following on in the cockrock vein it was Ratt - "Round And Round" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M60rLoCbbo).

Up next, something a little different. Metallica. A classic vid here, "For Whom The Bell Tolls" (live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22W38jJk81s), featuring the much missed Cliff Burton on bass. This was my first Metallica live experience as they were breaking in Jason Newkid .. sorry, Newstead ... but I remember spending much of their set with a German lass sat on my shoulders!

Then it was time for one of the greatest vocalists in rock history - the incomparable Ronnie James Dio. "We Rock" (live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q-4m8bIwJw). Dearly missed. RIP RJD.

And now the headline act. Deep Purple - "Bad Attitude" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgmjLHy7gmQ&feature=relmfu). Surely one of the greatest rock acts in history, this was the reformed Mark II lineup of Blackmore, Gillan, Glover, Paice and Lord.

Enjoy.

I feel the need ... the need for speed.

So to start with we have 3 bands leading the charge for modern thrash metal.

First off the bat, from Germany, this is Cripper with "Shortcut" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT33gTZNQik)

Second, from Greece, this is Suicidal Angels and "Apokathilosis" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqIFRfnZFec)

And then, from the UK, we have Evile with the appropriately named "Thrasher" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=924bRfmiJ20)

Now we go back in time, to 1989 with Annihilator's classic "Alison Hell" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTYHYglem-M)

And to finish we slow things down a little, as we "let freedom ring with a shotgun blast" - Machine Head "Davidian" (http://www.youtube.com/user/machinehead?blend=1&ob=5#p/u/22/_mWPPBW4DU8)

Power Station was a 1980s supergroup made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar). Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved on the studio side as recording producer. For a short time he also functioned as Power Station's manager. The band was formed in New York City late in 1984 during a break in Duran Duran's schedule that became a lengthy hiatus. Power Station was named after The Power Station recording studio where their album was

A very creative video with a message. I think among all those bands to emerge from the Seattle scene, Pearl Jam was the most interesting musically, with Soundgarden being the other. It's not even grunge (I never understood how grunge defined itself musically), just some decent rock music.

Wasn't sure whether to post this to cover versions or whatever.
I've heard poorer covers of this song, but IMHO nothing really compares to the original.

If only Golden Earring had made this very same film clip when they first released the song.

But then the waitress most likely wouldn't have been born then and don't even get me started on the service station attendant ;)

I posted The Breeders earlier in the thread, but forgot to post these two other great tunes.

The Breeders - Safari (I find this tune to be great, and Kim's voice is so great, and that breathing hiccup she does in this song. One of my faves, very addictive, great sound)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd7ILa_mhgA

The Breeders - Fortunately Gone (this is absolutely the most wonderful song for thinking about that someone special...Kim's voice, songwriting and lyrics really make it special. It is short, but very cool...and I love Kim's lyrics in this song.)

Lyrics
I wait for you in heaven
On this perfect string of love
And drink your soup of magpies in a
Pottery bowl that looks
As I am now, brown, round and warm

Chime on a rain wet
An ankle, toes or two
Sweetly as it drops upon your head
Just like it did today

Fortunately gone
I wait for you

How about Shonen Knife?

one of Cobain's faves, he introduced me to them.

who'd have thought these three japanese gals could put out such a potent brand of pop punk, and they did it 14 years before Green Day.

They sound like an american garage band circa the 60s.

They can rip, and they are endearing because it is just so odd that this would be great music.

If you've never heard them, you might like them.

this is my favorite song of theirs:

Surprise, surprise. I'm a fan of breeding too! ;) :)

This isn't their greatest song (that honour belongs to virtually all of the hard to find "Pod Demos" which included songs from the first two albums performed in "unplugged" style).

I do like this clip though (including the 'Flying Nun' parody)!.. and the thought of breeding with the Deal twins. :D

Great song & a sassy video, the band have just announced their split, (which is what reminded me of this track) + lead singer, Jenny Lewis is properly foxy ;).
This full version of the vid has model interviews for the first 9 mins  of the intro, so spool on past there for the music, the track is only a few minutes long

Best live clip i've seen for a long while.Size of the crowd borders on dis-belief(i've read some outlandish figures of 600,000)but then they do have 140million people in Russia
and it was free

Seems that figure is on the lower side...old airport used for the concert

"Largest crowd ever in a Monsters of Rock Festival, with estimates of 1.6 million people, considered as one of the most attended rock concerts in history"

1991
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsters_of_Rock#Russia

Camera work is 2nd to none...probably some studio editing going on no doubt
The song is suited to this type of arena

I like the 'Dead Elvis' (their original band name, which upset the Presley family) debut of these guys.
They made some interesting videos.

This is from their second album featuring Iggy Pop as guest vocalist.

Aisha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExLqMBLyWd8)

They also recorded with Paul Weller, Liam Gallagher and many others, including Emanuelle Seigner with an interesting little clip involving another sexual prediliction.
