Karen Elaina Price (born July 17, 1960) is an American model, stunt woman and television producer. She is sometimes credited as Karen Castoldi. She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month in January 1981. Her centerfold was photographed by Ken Marcus.

The Playboy issue with her centerfold is famous for having one of the last interviews with John Lennon. It came out about the time of his murder. After she became a Playmate, Karen started acting, but soon switched to performing stunts for over two dozen movies including Leonard Part 6 (1987), Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985), and The Golden Child (1986). After a hiatus, she began a new career as an associate producer of television programs such as Amazing Vacation Homes (2004) and Amazing Babies (2005).

Price made a cameo appearance of sorts in the early Mel Gibson film The Road Warrior - her centerfold is pasted onto a tailfin of Gyro Captain's Benson gyrocopter.

Thanks to CherButler85 for an inspired scan of one of the photos from Karen’s layout. I’ve tried my hand at “brightening” several photos from Karen’s fireplace shoot. They shed a little more light on the situation! Thanks to Karen and Ken Marcus for these beautiful photos.

I sorry that PB shut down Karen’s Yahoo group two weeks ago, along with lots of other PM groups. I wish they’d treat fans of classic PMs better—we don’t get much new content on Cyber Club, and it is fun to share alternative scans from photographs of magazines that are not longer in print, like the following, one of the most sensual photographs that PB ever produced. Thanks again to Karen for her great performance in front of the camera and for sharing her beauty with us.
The second scan has the wrong month for her appearance. It has a different tint, though, from the first scan, which has already appeared on our thread courtesy of Proowog. I thought I’d put them side by side so fans could see the difference.

Any vids of Prices anywhere? I can't believe Patricia Farinelli (who appeared in PB the same year as Price) got to do a video and they skipped Karen. She's simply the hottest playmate of the 80s: gorgeous face, athletic body, dark brunette hair, sublime thighs, and tits no man could ever refuse.

Karen didn't make a PB video, unfortunately, but she did film a scene in a Magnum PI episode, where she played an aerial acrobat dangling from a helicopter. It's fun to watch, but I only have a reference to an 8 megabite clip of that short scene. Somewhere there is a 64 meg clip floating around, but the address I found has expired.


Unfortunately her character doesn't last long!

Thanks to Aussie and Aspara for posting the new high-res scans of Karen’s original layout.

Thanks also to PB for issuing these photos (I rejoined the Cyber Club temporarily to thank them—I had to reward them financially for thinking of us fans of PB’s Golden Age). A Yahoo group that I belonged to several years ago wrote to PB to ask for full-sized digital photos of the original layouts of our favorite PMs, so newer fans (and older fans who had discarded or rumpled their old magazines) could appreciate the natural beauty of their favorite PMs. I’m delighted PB has granted our wish with its reissue of Karen’s spectacular layout. I can die a happier man. And if PB would someday grant our other wish—for a release of all the great photos it took of our favorite PMs, including test photos—I could die a truly happy man. We still have only one photo of Karen in the blue shirt and only one on the orange sheets. Do they look to my fellow VEF members like Karen’s test shots? It appears that PB hasn’t lost the nearly 2,000 pictures it took of Karen, so we can hope for more in the future.

P.S. – PB did, however, get Karen’s skin-tone wrong in the high-res scan of her smiling in the peasant blouse with the squirrel. The tone in the photo in the 1981 PB was perfect and captured her natural beauty. The new scan makes her skin appear unnatural. PB has once again missed the point about natural beauty!

Here’s a contemporary picture of Karen performing at a Laker’s game in 2008. Amazing, but not really! Her beauty didn’t have anything to do with makeup, airbrushing, lighting, etc., in the first place, so it’s no surprise she’s an athletic natural beauty at age 48! Thanks again to ACME.

Thanks to ACME for finding Karen’s candid 1981 interview with the Brandon (Manitoba) Sun. I'd like to hear what other VEF members think about what she had to say. It’s sad that the rude behavior of many “fans” soured Karen on the PM experience within three months of her appearance in PB, as did the goings on at the PB mansion.

The interview also explains how Karen became a PM. I had always wanted to know, but now I’m not so sure I wanted to know. I had always thought she was discovered on Muscle Beach or had been nominated by the lucky guys who knew her in high school or college. I wondered too what kind of pitch PB made to persuade her to pose (although I always thought her ambition to enter show business, her love of performing, and her pride in her body as a gymnast played a role). Sorry she felt pressured by her father.

I hope she no longer has regrets and appreciates how much her true fans admire her and the life she’s led. I hope too that she realizes how grateful we are that she shared her beauty with us. She’s stunning in every way—talented, accomplished, passionate, adventurous—every straight guy’s ideal. No wonder she’s the most popular PM on VEF. Karen’s the real Miss America of 1981, and she’s remembered by far more fans than the person who won that contest in Atlantic City that year. I hope Karen knows too that most of us enjoy the fantasy she created with Ken Marcus as they did, in a spirit of fun and with a conviction that sensuality is a wonderful thing. Karen represented PB at its best. As one website I ran across recently says, she’s “The One and Only Playmate.” And I’m glad her life turned out for the best.

It’s the 30th anniversary this month of Karen’s appearance in PB. The January 1981 issue went on sale on the 1st of December 1980. I fell for Karen after seeing the opening picture of her layout, in which she posed with her squirrel. Karen has a wonderful smile--one for the ages. I fear that PB won’t take note of her anniversary or bless Karen’s fans with a release of new photos. We can thank PB, however, for releasing her original layout this year in full-sized digital scans.
I hope Karen’s fans on VEF will register their support by rating her VEF thread a “five.” It’s embarrassing that her thread, the most viewed of any PM’s, is only rated a “4.” I respect the right of VEF fans to vote as they wish, but I know her thread would be a 5 (and remain a 5) if all of her fans weighed in. So please take a moment to do so.

In the 30 years since her pictorial I have not seen a woman that was as beautiful to me as Karen. I hope that PB continues to give us pictures of her.

The pictures of her original layout were great, but some of them were washed out. Especially the great pic of her and the squirrel. I tried to make some adjustment to the image to make it closer to the original.

I couldn’t agree more with Price-Is-Right. Karen is (IMO) the most beautiful PM of all time—and the tint of her skin in PB’s digitized version of her photo with the squirrel is terrible. Who is in charge there? Poor Karen looks radioactive. The colors in the magazine were true, which is why in my avatar I use a scan of her photo as it appeared in the January 1981 issue.

I wish they’d release full sized copies of more photos from Karen’s opening shoot. Several appeared in miniature in PB’s Dear PM column, and they are great.

PB doesn’t seem to understand how much PB’s stalwart fans love such photos. Karen’s appearance in PB is a fantasy—for her and for her fans—about the Girl-Next-Door: beautiful, talented, natural. The fantasy should begin as Karen meant it to begin, with her having fun, playing with her pet squirrel, practicing in the gym, and performing acrobatic stunts with friends at Muscle Beach. I wish that PB would give us similar clothed photos of Karen on the patio by beach, on the beach, and by the hot tub, so her fantasy could start in those scenes too as she intended. By the time we see Karen on the patio in the photos released to date, she’s already half out of her sun dress. She’d look lovely in that dress. I wish they’d give us a few shots of her wearing it. Nor have we had the pleasure of seeing Karen in a swim suit on the beach or in a robe by the hot tub. That’s what the Girl-Next-Door would be wearing at the beginning of the fantasy—and what I’m sure Karen was wearing. After all, the fantasy needs somewhere to go. Why start in the middle? PB isn’t hard core. It is erotic and sensual, but it never goes farther than a fun-loving, adventurous Girl-Next-Door like Karen would go. So why not start her scenes at the beginning, with Karen looking beautiful and natural in stylish clothes, so her fantasy can unfold properly? So we can see Karen as a person—friendly, fun-loving, and playful—before she leaves us speechless? That’s what Karen meant for us to enjoy—and what PB at its best lets us enjoy. I feel the same way about all the PM’s who like Karen put on great performances and built compelling fantasies for us—Marilyn Lange, Patti McGuire, Patti Farinelli, et al. Let their performances unfold slowly, so their fantasies can be enjoyed in the spirit in which they created them and in which their loyal fans enjoy them. And please get their skin tones right! Natural means natural!

Of course, I wish we had more photos of Karen of every kind. Karen is beautiful coming and going, but we don’t yet have a truly good picture of Karen from behind, looking back at us, as we do for so many PMs, like Marilyn Lange, who smiled and flirted with us as she splashed in the pool or kneeled on the bed, or Patti McGuire, who vamped in front of a fireplace and in the surf, or Patricia Farinelli who stood statuesque before a window. I hope Ken Marcus took a few photos of Karen like these. We get a tantalizing hint of what such photos would look like from the shot of Karen on the orange sheets, probably from her test shots, and of Karen twisting around in the hot tub, but that’s about it. I’m sure Karen would have struck more poses like that if Ken had asked—she was nothing if not confident of her beauty, generous to her fans, and eager to please and entertain. So there’s hope. Maybe they're in the vault!

Thanks to palaeolox, here is a link to a newspaper interview with Karen Price that appeared in the Weekender edition of THE LEADER, April 4,1981, pages C 8-9 (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada). It’s a big double-page article. Hopefully someone can scan it and post it here (I can't figure out how to save it from the Google page). Here is the link to the article. The article is interesting, and it has two nice photos. Karen let’s us know that she weighed 148 pounds before dropping weight for her PB shoot (which may explain a few things!) and that after her shoot, while she was trying to break into acting, she went down to 118 pounds. Karen also names the names of hangers-on around the PB mansion who she met. She's polite, but it doesn’t sound like she was terribly impressed.

Karen’s VEF thread now has over 400,000 views, more than 20,000 ahead of Candy Loving.

Karen is by far my all time favorite playmate and I've been seeking to find a recent photo of her. I googled Karen Castoldi and found this picture of her on some film group website. It's without a doubt her and she linked her member page to a facebook account with the name Karen Castle (found a twitter account with both names). Have to say, she still looks good at age 50.

Karen Price in Hell Night part 2 (1981)

Thanks to Palaeolox, we can now see Karen’s first movie appearance on You-Tube. Here’s what he says:

From: palaeolox: “The movie HELL NIGHT Part 2 was released nationwide August 28, 1981. It was Karen Price's motion picture debut. I saw this movie at the Drive-In during September of 1981, and went to see it because I had read in The World of Playboy news that she was going to be in it. I was of course expecting that she would get naked. I sat there for 2 hours, but I never even saw her in the movie! Years later around 1990 I rented the movie on VHS from the video store. I watched it again, and still I could not see Karen Price in it all. I thought for sure then, that her scenes must have been deleted before its release in August 1981. But finally 30 years later I watched it again this time closely and I finally spotted her in it, after several viewings over the past 30 years. Now see if you can spot her in the movie.”

Here is a clue. Karen appears at least twice, once near the beginning of the fifth minute and in the second third of the sixth minute. If you find her elsewhere in the opening scene, please let us know. It’s a night scene and badly lit most of the time.

Thanks to Masque, we now have excellent scans of Karen’s appearance in PB’s PMs: The Second 15 Years. None of the photos are new, but as I-Chop says, it’s important to be complete. Karen now has well over 500,000 views on VEF. She’s still the most popular PM on VEF who only appeared in PB. Unfortunately, another PM has passed her, thanks to an abundance of explicit photos that appeared elsewhere. Oh well. Karen is still the fairest of all!

Discussion group for Karen Price

Leroy Large Car found another promotional picture of Karen on the web, which he kindly invited me to post on Karen’s thread. It’s a slightly different version of the picture Leroy posted a few months back. I thought December 1 would be a good day to post Karen’s picture, in celebration of the thirty-second anniversary of her appearance in PB. (New issues always came out a month ahead of the official publication month, so January issues were then, as today, the “Holiday” issues). So Happy Anniversary to Karen, who is as gorgeous today as she was at age twenty when she posed for PB.

I found a clip of Karen’s appearance on Magnum PI. Unfortunately, her character doesn’t last long, but her performance is fun to watch. She’s a circus performer named Robin who performs a dazzling stunt from a helicopter and then has a brief speaking part before her untimely end. You’ll enjoy seeing more than the clip, because Karen’s departed character is remembered fondly by everyone who mentions her. Her murder was an unfortunate consequence of her suspecting that someone was up to something, which that person was!

P.S. – Karen’s thread now has over a three-quarters of a million views on VEF, the most by far for any PM who posed only for PB. She’s also in the top ten on the “thread ratings” for Softcore Models, in good company with Marilyn Lange, Candy Loving, Cynthia Myers, and Janet Lupo (there’s a theme there somewhere!).
