I was a little suprised that this hasn't been asked before since I am sure the majority of us have spent more time than we would like to admit in front of the television. In this thread lets try to keep it simple. Shows that BEGAN airing before the year 1990 and earlier will be deemed "classic" (so "Friends" wouldn't qualify...lol) for this thread. Please, no multiple list (favorite westerns, dramas, comedies, ect.), just your all time favorite top 10. Yes, I know it may be tough for some of us, but do your best....come on....I know you can do it!;)
So I will start us off with mine. In no paticular order they are:
1) The Andy Griffith Show
2) Mash
3) Star Trek - The Next Generation
4) Monty Python
5) The Untouchables
6) All In The Family
7) Cheers
8) Married With Children
9) Saturday Night Live
10) Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
So there you have it, and yes it was tough not to fudge abit and list one or two from the early ninties, but I didn't. So lets hear it. What are your top 10 all time Classic favorites?

Easier to find good TV from before 1990 than later, I think. My current top ten would be:
Hill Street Blues
The Good Life
MASH
I Claudius (1 Clavdivs as my family used to refer to it)
The Prisoner
Doctor Who (back when John Pertwee and Tom Baker were doing it)
All Creatures Great and Small
Sergeant Bilko (yes, I know it was officially called The Phil Silvers Show)
Alias Smith and Jones (they never killed anybody)
The Sweeney
Damn. 10 just isn't nearly enough.

Heck that use of the word classic again !.Man alive there are just so many favourite TV shows that i can fondly remembered looking forward to and watching that it`d be bloody difficult to condense them down into ten , plus several have already been mentioned AND i`m now half past sober ,which as we know makes everything virtually impossible let alone decision making . But it`s a cool thread topic so i better slap my face (Why should women have all the fun) and get to work
"SLAP"
Now then after much ado here`s my eight plus two :o
1) The Benny Hill Show ( A cheeky funny man and sexy girls what`s not to like ?)
2) The Avengers (It showed the British as they`d like to be , yet never were or are)
3) Minder (Earliest ones were the best, as Terry battered a fresh face each week)
4) The Prisoner (Still don`t know what the hell that final episode was all about ?)
5) Rising Damp (Love Lennard Rossiter )
6) The Rise and Fall of Reginal Perrin (As above )
7) The Lovers ( Crazy about Richard Beckinsale to ,and he was great in this also)
8) The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (About as sixties a 1960s secret agent show you could ever wish for )
9) The Addams Family ( Neat , sweet, petite )
10) The Equalizer (Best theme ever , and an ideal worth striving for )

It seems this thread has come to a bit of a stand still so I thought I might share a few more classics that didn't make my top 10, but I always enjoyed. I used to watch these on PBS (Public Broadcast System). Along with Monty Python and The Bennie Hill Show, I was also quite fond of:
http://img172.imagevenue.com/loc194/th_94378_BBC_-_Black_Adder_122_194lo.jpg (http://img172.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc194&image=94378_BBC_-_Black_Adder_122_194lo.jpg) http://img101.imagevenue.com/loc208/th_96088_TillDeathUsDo_122_208lo.jpg (http://img101.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc208&image=96088_TillDeathUsDo_122_208lo.jpg)
And of course:

Although my favorite Emma Peel was:

And a few more American favs:

Mine in no particular order are:
The Prisoner (Patrick McGoohan)
The Avengers (Steed and Tara King, yum)
The Goodies (always more of a Goodies fan than a Python fan tbh)
Soap (First American show that I laughed out loud at)
MASH (First "grown up" show that my parents decided I was old enough to appreciate)
Dead Head (Denis Lawson, awesome BBC2 four parter that has never been repeated as far as I know)
Twin Peaks (Old enough to be called Classic? I think so)
Tiswas (simply the best Saturday morning kids' show ever imo)
Dad's Army (The curse of Dad's Army; the only one still alive is Stupid Boy Pike, and it made his hair turn white etc)
Juliet Bravo (terrible old BBC1 show, set in a Northern police station, back in't good old days when you could leave your front door open and still get into town for a skinful, then get a fish supper on the way home and still have change out of a groat and two farthings. Only on the list because a lot of it was filmed locally when I was a nipper, and watching it now brings back nostalgic feelings of the "good god, did that really used to be a butcher's shop? It's a pound shop/kebab shop/drop in centre nowadays" variety)
Most of them have already been included in everyone elses list so ill try hopefully adding some different favourite shows in my own ,which i can remember and that aired before 1990.

that was a joke. :p
Del Boy - the lad was ace. Also the human side of Hill Street Blues and recent episodes of ER was something to remember.
Not sure if the excellent 6ft under was aired in Britain; the gay aspect was too much down here it seems, so it was shown 3 am when the owls go out for a drink.
Unmissable stuff about our lives; relationships and every day struggling - life and death in general really.

Morning Sarge starred Pete McCarthy whos two travel books 'McCarthys Bar' and 'Road to McCarthy' sold in their millions. I have mentioned these over on my 'Travel Writing' thread.
McCarthy died of cancer in 2004, a great loss to the arts in general.

I had to post something on this thread since a couple of my favorites haven't been listed yet. No particular order:
1. The Honeymooners - Set the template for all the others. Before Elvis, Jackie Gleason was "the King".
2. Mary Tyler Moore - Set in my hometown and had Ted Baxter. 'Nuff said
3. Rat Patrol - I know, I know, it's a rip off of the Desert Rats but those Yanks still kicked some a**.
4. M*A*S*H - A little preachy at the end for my tastes but Ferret Face Burns made the early ones classic.
5. Happy Days - Did I wear a leather jacket because of the Fonz? Correctamundo.
6. Taxi - Andy Kaufman RIP
7. Twilight Zone - Something different every week.
8. Barney Miller. NYPD hijinks at their 70's best.
9. Gilligans Island - Mindless entertainment has rotted my brain. Thank God.
10. Baa Baa Blacksheep - For me, the Corsair F-4 was the star of this show.
