The fotomodel and actress Trine Michelsen has died of the cancer disease that has taunted her for seven years, writes 'Ekstra Bladet.

Trine Michelsen died saturday night on the palliative clinic 'Håndværkergården', which has specialized in easing pain at incurable patients. By her side she had her father, the former Bogart TV host Ole Michelsen.

- There is nothing that will cause her pain anymore. She is free of her sufferings. An event lasting for seven years. Now it is over and leaves a very big empty space that I now have to get used to, he says to 'Ekstra Bladet'.

Trine Michelsen, that would have celebrated her 43th birthday tomorrow, was hit by a special kind of bone cancer in her left shoulder that spread to the lungs and the rest of her body.

Definitely a good idea but I hope there aren't too many of them. Most of the vintage gals seem to have faded away without trace (e.g. Virginia Bell) and the P3 Girls are too young to have died except in tragic circumstances.

This particular one is most saddening.
Several people have asked if I knew what happened to Melodye, who
passed away a few weeks ago.

She'd had trouble with one of her knees from a long-ago accident and
had been on medication for it for some time. At some fairly recent
point her doctors added another medicine to her regimen for another
chronic problem, but the 2 meds conflicted and she was brought to the
hospital to be put on oxygen. I know this is just horrific, but this
is what happened. They put her on an oxygen tank and left the room -
- - - only the tank was empty. She essentially asphyxiated.

Please send loving and caring thoughts to her family. I don't have
any address for her. If anybody does, perhaps you can post it here
and we can send cards.

Since December 1959 when the first issue of Playboy was published, 39 women who have been Playmates of the Month have passed away.

I also belong to a Yahoo group called Rapidshare Video Library. Around October or November of 2008, the moderator had posted she was in California and quite ill. Said she was dealing with pneumonia and other side effects from old age and illness.
Basically, it was just her time to go.
Gave an address to send get well wishes. I sent her a card with a note in it thanking her for all the smiles, joy & general good feelings her work had given so many over the years.

How many times did I see the "Johnny Bravo" episode of THE BRADY BUNCH in the 1970's and 1980's without realizing it was Claudia who was a Playmate Of The Year as a guest on that episode ? lol

So many of these girls died too young....it's so tough once you hit your 30's or later, are no longer 'on top' or considered young and desirable. In terms of career opportunities, money, fame, and attention, alot changes from the time these girls are in their early 20's (or even late teens) to the early-30's. Good info...but alot of the 'natural causes' reasons are covers for drug overdose or even suicide. Family and friends don't want some things going public.

When you read about a healthy woman in her 30's dying from a heart attack, suspicions rise. Alot of these girls and women hit their life and professional highs very young, never recaptured that fame, and later on can very easily sink into depression with drugs, sleeping pills, or booze. Alot of these girls really though they would be 21 or 22 forever and always on top -- hitting the 30's and closer to age 40 than their centerfold ages is a shock to many, esp. if they saved no money (almost all), have poor or no job prospects (ditto), or are unmarried (many or most). :( Similar to other magazine girls, models, and aspiring actresses.

I was passing through the softcore titles and spotted a thread that I thought might be interesting. I have just spent a sad two hours reading everything here.

There are so many memories wrapped up in these pages. I have recognized too many names and photographs including my earliest heartthrob, Diane Webber. Each of us, I am sure, loved these women in our own way and held the hope of someday having them pass by us on the street in a fleeting view of paradise. For all of them now, such hopes are in the past but smiles live on in our hearts for the joy they caused before we became aware of their passing.

In my whole life, now encompassing 66 years, I have only met one such celebrity in the flesh, and I still remember every detail clearly. In the early 60s I was in college in California when Astrid Shultz, PM Sept 64, appeared at a local men's clothing store on a promotion. I and my three buddies took a break from our studying to make the trip, but sadly they stopped me from taking her issue in for a autograph (sensitivities were much stricter then). I remember a short lady, coming only to my shoulder, but cute and friendly. But I haven't seen her name here and hope she is still living a happy life.

I missed seeing Jayne Mansfield by only a day or two when stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was playing at Gus Stevens on the gulf when her life was tragically cut short. I recently returned to that area for a visit but couldn't quite figure where the club, now gone, had stood. But I have passed by the location of her accident outside New Orleans several times, I did on my visit in '06, and still think fondly of her when I do.

In particular, I remember the passing of Bettie Page. A story in the paper stating that she was in a hospital, then, later, her obituary giving a few details of her life and death. I grieve occasionally for the loss, and miss my forlorn hopes of meeting her just once.

Fabrizio, you're a saint for your records and information, always providing just the touch needed to jiggle the heartstrings and jog the memory.

I think "Allison" (aka Gloria) was the centerfold in the first Pl*yb*y I ever purchased as a teenager. The newspaper obit doesn't even mention her centerfold fame. It also lists her birth year as 1941; Wikipedia says 1943.

Granted, these ladies were not exactly making the same sort of selfless sacrifice that
a Peace Corps nurse makes. But, they were admired by many and very much appreciated by even more people. I'm sure I am not the only one who often wonders," I wonder whatever happened to....", and now we have at least one convenient , and place to look in this case HOPE we do NOT find her name here. It is indeed odd that it took a quarter century for Fran Gerard's death to become generally known.

The "who's alive" notice says that Fran Gerard was the first PB model to wear prescription eyeglasses in her centerfold photo. I guess she was the first to wear glasses, but to me those lenses look completely clear--like the eyeglasses George Reeves wore as Clark Kent--not prescription.

Update: I did some research and am pretty sure she did pass on. In a way its good to know who she was yet sad to know she's been gone for all this time. Here is what I believe to be the original post from another group that confirms it. All credit to the original poster/ researcher:


Last month I spotted a website that suggested Fran Gerard attended Granada Hills
High School near Los Angeles. Acting on a hunch, I managed to locate a copy of
the 1966 Granada Hills High School yearbook. I wanted to see if Fran was among
the Class of 1966, in which case she would be 18 years old if the March 23, 1948
birthdate her Playmate bio stated was accurate.

To my astonishment, I quickly found her picture, on page 23 of the yearbook in
the Seniors class pictures section. Alas, it is the only picture of her in the
entire yearbook that I have been able to spot. It is possible that pictures of
her as an underclassman may exist in previous years/yearbooks, but her senior
year, there is just once picture, which I am posting here in the Photos section.

There on page 23, she is shown as "Frances Camuglia, Homemaker". It is
unmistakeably our Fran.

From there, the story takes a sad turn.

Who was "Fran Gerard"?

I did some research at ancestry.com and found a lot of details that fill in some
pieces of vital information about her birth, her family, her marriages (there
were 2 husbands), and her death.

She was born Frances Anna Camuglia, on March 23, 1948 in New York, presumably
Staten Island according to her Playmate bio. There is one conflicting birth date
at ancestry.com that says her birth date was March 24, 1948, so there's a small
conflict there. Her mother's maiden name was Derosa. I'm unable to confirm
mother or father's full names, though ancestry.com says both are still living.

Ancestry.com also says that Fran had 1 brother and 2 sisters, and all are still
living. The website does not reveal their names.

Fran was first married to a Jack L. Cavender on May 7, 1966. He was born in
1929, so he would have been 37 years old when they married, and she just 18. In
addition, that marriage date almost certainly occurred before her high school
graduation. We can use our imagination to wonder why an 18 year old girl marries
a man twice her age while she is still in high school...but we can't confirm any
particular reason why that occurred. One thing it apparently was not: according
to ancestry.com, Fran never had any children.

Another interesting fact: Fran and Jack Cavender divorced just 7 months after
they were married, in January 1967, in Los Angeles. Their divorce was a "Type 2"
cause, though I'm unable to determine exactly what that meant in 1967 (i.e.,
"extreme cruelty", "irreconcilable differences", or something similar). The
State File is #002666, the Dissolution File is #702684.

Who was Jack L. Cavender? I'm not finding much information, but it is possible
he was Jack Lee Cavender, born in Ohio on May 27, 1929, and died in Los Angeles
on March 6, 1983....though I have no confirmation that "Jack L." and "Jack Lee"
are the same person.

Another question about Jack L. Cavender: is it possible he is the astrologist
"Jack Gemini" who "employed" Fran as his assistant, as related in her Playmate
story in March 1967?

Fran married again, on August 17, 1970 in Las Vegas in a religious ceremony, to
M_______ A___ Rey of New Mexico. (The date of recording in the Las
Vegas/Clark County records is Sept. 24, 1970)

I did not see a divorce filing for Mr. Rey and Fran, so I presume they were
married until her death, though I don't know that as a fact.

The last details are the saddest: Fran died on May 30, 1985 in Fountain Valley,
California. I'm unable to locate a death certificate on-line, so the cause of
death is unknown to me, but 38 years old is much to young to leave this earth,
regardless of the reason.

I was so very excited today when I found Fran's senior class picture. 8 hours
later, after my findings on ancestry.com, I feel very differently, very sad. She
was such a beautiful woman. I hope she had a happy life. What few details we now
know suggest that she may not have had the kind of happy life we'd have wished
for her, but I still maintain some hope that Fran found peace and happiness
after her Playboy days were done.

Goodbye Fran, and rest in peace.

Sad to see so many names here. Other than Mayfair in the 80's I never really went for the top shelf stuff, mainly growing up with the page 3 girls [not literally unfortunately ] so a lot of the American names mean nothing to me but especially bad when so many die so young. A good tribute to their passing here.

I was not aware she had died until I joined up here. One of my favs from teh early 90's, and her gymnast clip from her PM video was one of my favorites of all time. RIP.

Ronnie Dawn (PH, May 1991), real name Sherry Dawn Dunson. I recall hearing about her murder when it happened, as I live in Texas. The police think it was a carjacking attempt. A reward was offered, but I don't know if the case was ever solved. At the time, Houston was the No. 1 US city for murders.

"She said hello and visited for a while and then left with Lynn to go celebrating," he said.
Floyd said Dunson left with her close friend Lynn Johnson, who also works at Rick's Cabaret and had also modeled for Penthouse. They were in Johnson's black Mercedes 380 SE.
Police said they visited several clubs and were on their way home when they decided to stop at the service station to buy cigarettes and use the telephone.
"They had been drinking, and they wanted to stop and call someone to come pick them up," Williamson said.
"The friend got out of the car and went to use the phone while the victim remained behind the wheel of the car," Williamson said.
While Johnson was on the phone another car pulled up next to the Mercedes.
"The friend told us she could hear talking going on between the two cars, but she couldn't tell what they were saying," he said.
"When she heard the victim say, "I'll shoot you, too,' " she ducked behind the building. "A few moments later she heard a shot and came out and found the victim still behind the wheel shot in the chest with a small-caliber weapon," Williamson said.

Floyd said Dunson left with her close friend Lynn Johnson, who also works at Rick's Cabaret and had also modeled for Penthouse. They were in Johnson's black Mercedes 380 SE.
Police said they visited several clubs and were on their way home when they decided to stop at the service station to buy cigarettes and use the telephone.
"They had been drinking, and they wanted to stop and call someone to come pick them up," Williamson said.
"The friend got out of the car and went to use the phone while the victim remained behind the wheel of the car," Williamson said.
While Johnson was on the phone another car pulled up next to the Mercedes.
"The friend told us she could hear talking going on between the two cars, but she couldn't tell what they were saying," he said.
"When she heard the victim say, "I'll shoot you, too,' " she ducked behind the building. "A few moments later she heard a shot and came out and found the victim still behind the wheel shot in the chest with a small-caliber weapon," Williamson said.
Dunson was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where she died shortly after arrival.
Williamson said that after the shot was fired the gunman sped away and was last seen heading south on Chimney Rock.
"Our only description of the car is that it is a small to medium-sized car probably with tinted windows," he said.
Williamson said nothing was stolen and that police believe there are two possible motives for the slaying.
"It was either a robbery or stemmed from some sort of traffic argument," he said.
Homicide detective Boyd Smith said the co-workers of the victims told investigators she didn't have any problems with any customers that evening.
"We don't think it's related to work. They went to a few clubs afterward, but there were no conflicts there either," he said.
Smith said it was possible that the gunman wanted to steal the victim's car.
"It is a slick-looking car. He could have been after the car, but we don't know why he didn't follow through and take it," he said.
Police have noticed an alarming increase in the number of cases in which robbers force people out of their vehicles and then steal them.
Through the end of September this year there have been 426 carjackings, 35 percent more than occurred during the same period last year.
Police believe the carjackings have increased for two reasons. Better technology in the form of car alarms and locks are preventing thieves from easily stealing unattended cars. Second, better security at convenience stores are making those more difficult for hijackers to target so robbers are turning to other forms of crime.
Floyd said Dunson was very well liked and respected at the club.
"She was a really good person, always really upbeat and really a lot of fun," he said. "We were so happy for her. This whole thing is so senseless, it's really hard to swallow."

LOS ANGELES – Tura Satana, who gained cult status for her role in the 1965 Russ Meyer movie "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" has died of heart failure at age 72.
The Los Angeles Times reports Satana's death was confirmed by her manager, Siouxzan Perry, who said Satana died Friday at a hospital in Reno, Nev.
In "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" Satana played Varla, the leader of a trio of thrill-seeking go-go dancers who kills a man with her bare hands. The women then set out to rob a wealthy older man who lives on a desert ranch with his two sons.
Meyer has said the movie was an "absolute loser" when released but was rediscovered by the 1990s. It has since been shown at film festivals and art house cinemas.
Satana's other credits include the 1963 film "Irma La Douce" and the television shows "Burke's Law" and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

I remember Terri or Teresa as I knew her. I went to secondary school with her and she was a friend of mine, I had a little crush on her, we got on really well, she was a lovely, happy vibrant, clever and funny girl, always centre of attention. I will always remember going on a school outing to the west end and Teresa holding my arm as we marched through the tube passages, it felt really good, she was gorgeous. I am 50 now and had a dream of her last night, strange isn't it, life? So I decided to look her up, this is the only thing I found on the net, and I had to join to make sure something nice was known about this little girl. We lost touch when we left school, and I read the news of her death, a sad end for a good kid, RIP Teresa, I always smile when I think of you, from shingles.

I would have only been 14 in 1980 and I don't remember Terri Ellis, shame she was a nice looking lady and what a tragedy-seems that sometimes the mantle of Page 3 girl is recipe for disaster.

She went to see her soon to be ex to essentially say goodbye and give him closure. She told her then boyfriend the director Peter Bogdanovich and a few others she was going. She made the mistake of meeting him at his apartment alone. It's probable that Snyder, (a serious creep who dressed like a pimp as was very much a Svengali type) made her undress and it's not clear or not if they had pre-mortum sex. He shot her in the face at a range of about three feet with a double barrelled, over-under twelve gauge. She put her hand up and turned away from the gun at the last second, the tips of her fingers on her right hand were blown off and the shot went into the right side of her face. (Both films made about her got the details wrong, she was not laying down but was more than likely sitting up.) Snyder then raped her dead body, re-loaded the gun and blew his own head off.

Side note, Bogdanovich became as obsessed with her in death as Snyder was in life and for years mourned her. It's been reported that he even dated her much younger sister for some time when she came of age. I don't know how true this is. He was the one that wanted to make a version of her life story centering on her murder entitled "The Killing of the Unicorn". No one wanted to back it as "Star 80" had just been released and the subject was just so grim. This is stuff I got from people I have known in Hollywood over the years so I cannot say how true it all is. I do know that she was a really sweet and caring lady that wanted so much to please that she married Snyder not because she ever loved him but she felt she owed it to him for starting her career. She really didn't belong in Hollywood. Very, very sad.

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County coroners are trying to confirm that a badly decomposed body found in the home of former Playboy Playmate and B-movie actress Yvette Vickers is hers.
A neighbor discovered the body in a mummified state last week, police told the Los Angeles Times.
The body appeared to have gone undiscovered for an unknown period of time — anywhere from several months to a year — and investigators weren't able to determine if it was the remains of a man or woman, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said.
Neighbor Susan Savage told the Times she saw letters and cobwebs in Vickers' mailbox before going into her neglected home in the Benedict Canyon area to discover what she believed to be the actress's unrecognizable remains.
"The letters seemed untouched and were starting to yellow," Savage said. "I just had a bad feeling."
When she entered the house, Savage said she moved through stacks of clutter before finding the body upstairs in a room with a small space heater still on.
The 82-year-old Vickers had appeared in cult movies such as "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" and "Attack of the Giant Leeches." The voluptuous blonde was Playboy's Playmate of the Month in July 1959.
Savage said she remembered her neighbor as an elegant woman with flowing blond hair and "a warm smile."
"She kept to herself, had friends and seemed like a very independent spirit," Savage said. "To the end she still got cards and letters from all over the world requesting photos and still wanting to be her friend."

I just ran across this on the web and see that will101 has already submitted it. I question an age of 82, however. I suspect her age was more like 74 or 75. (She was definitely not 30 when she posed for PB.)

As I remember, PB presented her in 1959 as a sort of "beatnik" (remember them?), with the PM shot showing her operating a serious (for the time) turntable, with jazz LPs on the floor. (As usual, PB made sure to portray her as an "unthreatening" beatnik—not too weird.) Her father was a jazz sax player, her mother a classical pianist.

Solid information about Roberta Pedon is hard to find. There are a number of persistent rumors swirling around about her. Many people believe her real name is/was Rosma Grantoviskis, a woman who supposedly DID die in the early 1980s. From what I've read, Roberta was a friend of Ms. Grantoviskis, and even used her name at times. That, however, is also a rumor. As is the story that she'd had breast reduction surgery, and that she'd had a baby at one time.
I read that a man named Charles Smith recently wrote a biography of Roberta, supposedly separating fact from fiction, but I have been unable to locate such a book. To read what I've been able to find out about this bio, go to the link below;

The first time I saw her centerfold picture, around 1980-81, it was a small sized version as part of an advertisement (see below). Because of the photo size and the angle (and the way she's positioned), I thought the stuffed animal was snuggled in-between her breasts. :eek: That would have made a classic centerfold even more so. :) But perhaps that would've been a bit risque even by PB's standards for the time period.

Two sources confirm the 1991 suicide of April '64 PM Ashlyn Martin. I don't know why it took 21 years for this sad fact to become publicly known. Ashlyn, from London, was 18 when she posed. Don't know any details, except that she was 45 at the time of her death.
