This is slightly tangential because I'm sure the girls themselves didn't choose the following names, but the names they were given used to put me off their photosets.

I'm sure a lot of members will remember that back in the late 70s and 80s in UK girlie mags there would often be a Diary Girl feature, in which, issue after issue, the same girl would be featured stripping off in a different location or out of a different outfit.

Too many of these girls had names whose first letters alliterated - Mandy Moore, Lisa Lane, Mitzi May - or names that were just piss-takes - Candy Hunt, Tina Cream.

I found that this dumb-assery often put me off the girl just because their names were clearly fake, and editorial impositions at that, the last thing you want in a supposedly real diary feature.

They called up an image of unshaven bleary cynical half-pissed junior editors sitting round the magazine office in a haze of late afternoon stale smoke, exercising their contempt for their jobs, the girls, and the readers by thinking up smartarse names.
