I'd like to get hold of a good quality copy of 'Deep End'. The only one I've seen on the web is a poor VHS version.

This film has never been officially released on DVD though Amazon did once list a VHS version. My own copy of the complete movie is VHS quality (off-air) but is perfectly viewable. However the good news is that a company called Bavaria Media is currently restoring this classic Jerzy Skolomowski movie as part of its 40th anniversary, for a DVD release in 2010. The movie was actually made in 1970 but not released until the following year. The DVD version will be digitally enhanced and HD apparently. Once I know more, I will post an update here.

This film has never been officially released on DVD though Amazon did once list a VHS version. My own copy of the complete movie is VHS quality (off-air) but is perfectly viewable. However the good news is that a company called Bavaria Media is currently restoring this classic Jerzy Skolomowski movie as part of its 40th anniversary, for a DVD release in 2010. The movie was actually made in 1970 but not released until the following year. The DVD version will be digitally enhanced and HD apparently. Once I know more, I will post an update here.

The good new is that it will be released in BluRay and DVD formats in one package on July 18th. Only £12 from Amazon. A bit of a bargain I'd say.:)

If it's any consolation, I can only add that it will be worth waiting for - the restoration team have done a outstanding job. And the interviews are fascinating. Jane Asher has a refreshingly down to earth attitude to the nude scenes saying basically that it was part of her job so she just got on with it. A bit like Kate Winslet in that respect. And she confims that she did pose for the cardboard cutout photo.
I saw Deep End in the cinema in 1971 and later on TV in the mid 1970s and it seems just as fresh and innovative now as it did then.

If it's any consolation, I can only add that it will be worth waiting for - the restoration team have done a outstanding job. And the interviews are fascinating. Jane Asher has a refreshingly down to earth attitude to the nude scenes saying basically that it was part of her job so she just got on with it. A bit like Kate Winslet in that respect. And she confims that she did pose for the cardboard cutout photo.
I saw Deep End in the cinema in 1971 and later on TV in the mid 1970s and it seems just as fresh and innovative now as it did then.

She did indeed - I remember seeing this film on TV a couple of times in the 70s. In the Deep End interview she says that she didn't feel uncomfortable doing the nude scenes as they weren't the first that she had done. Presumably she was referring to 'The Buttercup Chain' which was filmed prior to Deep End (shot in April and May 1970).

Sorry, the discs are copy protected and I don't have the knowledge or software to rip them. Perhaps somebody with more expertise than me could do this.

There are two interviews - a panel interview on stage at the BFI (this will probably appear on the BFI website at some point) and another with John Moulder Brown where the nude scenes are briefly discussed.
