Another snipped of information about Ms. Bara. Her name came from the mixing up of the letters from the phrase 'Arab Death'. Her real name was Theodosia Burr Goodman.

The name Theda Bara was an invention of her pioneering producer, William Fox. Fox was also one of the original Hollywood promoters and pr men. Among the fictions he invented was that Theda Bara was the daughter of an Arabian princess and a French Foeigh Legionarre, and that her name was an anagram for the words "Arab Death". Fox discovered that fact by accident and decided to play it up as a publicity gimmick to his movies. In real life, Theodosia Goodman was from a Jewish family in Cincinatti, who decided to go into the theatre, and then movies.

Theda's reputation as "The Queen of Depravity" was a private joke inside Hollywood as they knew she was actually quite strait laced.Her career was all but ruined by an ill-advised theatre tour which revealed her weak piping voice.
