Something I would love to see also. I fondly remember having to stand on a chair as a young man in a crowded bar to see my first stripper, like a proper twat. It was always a bonus if you had a stripper in a 70's cop shop like The Sweeney or Minder(the early editions) with one in particular being used back then-not very big tit wise but worth watching-her name was Brandi di Frank(Or Franco) probably a stage name but she was quite follically unchallenged as they say nowadays-:D Candy Davies was a stripper in MINDER as was Terry's girlfriend in later episodes Diane someone or other. I am sure there were others but I was probably too young to notice at the time. One other I think was in an episode of HAZELL(Nicholas Ball) if anyone remembers that series.

Ah yes, the real reason to look forward to 70's cop shows was the chance of a glimpse of the ' norks ' belonging to some stripper girlfirend-of-the-tough-cop as he pulled back the covers while answering a late-night call from the Boss etc. Many early cases of ' wood ' can be attributed to the writers of those shows. :)

Call me old fashioned but thankfully the 'stripper in a pub' hasn't totally gone the way of chopper bikes, Capris, bent coppers, beige decor, etc, and is alive and well(-ish) at least in West London. There are several walkround / collection in a jug places left. Just got back from the Victoria in Hayes, and though the three girls weren't top rank, there's not much to beat chatting casually with attractive, semi-naked young women at the bar between dances, or a 'private' in the privacy of the curtained area at the back.

This lady is an act on the recently-released DVD of "The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club" from 1974 ITV. Sadly she does not do a full strip, but it's very nostalgic to watch as it has brilliantly captured the atmosphere of a Working Men's Club of the time. Recommended!

Cameras were generally frowned on at pub shows, so this art form is sadly not much recorded:-)

The next best thing for VEF members might be my 'pub stripper diaries'. After every show I saw, I wrote down descriptions and impressions in a couple of diaries. It would be a big task to convert and transcribe to lot to computer, but I hope to upload a few entries to this thread if readers are interested.

My experience of pub strip shows isn't of the seventies, but the late 80s and early 90s.

First started going to pub shows in 1987 (about twenty visits - some of them when I was strictly speaking too young to attend), then I regularly went to lunchtime shows on Mondays and Fridays, nearly every week from 1988 to 1993, at four or five different pubs. Since each show consisted of 3, sometimes 4 spots, this means I've watched - and recorded-- close on 1,600 stripteases!

Of course some descriptions are just a couple of lines, but the more memorable ones got a page. These include one strip in which the girl came on dressed as a cleaner with a mop - and was so convincing the audience wanted her to finish so the stripper could come on - and one when the girl came on naked and got dressed!

Also the more mature stripper I overheard talking about the time she flew to Amsterdam to appear in a video with the legendary John Holmes. I used to rate each act I saw with three ratings1) Explicitness 2) Contact with the audience and 3) Style

This has been transcribed from my old diary with no alterations apart from punctuation and spelling. Please read no further if easily offended - because this is a bit bit like a 'News of the World' piece without the reporter.

However, it does give a pretty good (or bad) idea of what the vintage pub strip of twenty odd years ago was really like - although this pub strip was naughtier than the average, it wasn't unusually so and plenty of similar acts took place in the 80s in ordinary pubs at lunchtime in towns and suburbs.

As per #18 etc. noted above, the shows nearby here, used to have a stool near to the entrance doorway. On top was a freebie set of weekley or monthly magazine type handouts. If you picked up one on your way out the door, it often mantioned that Iff'n you came from... then you were invited to another place, free of any covercharge. But that night Only. Then next month a whole new editon was on top of the stool.

I used to have a few of these, but are now gone. They would generally show some performer on stage, and crowd in background at the edge. I cannot remember the name to the rag(s), but were free and only available at certain places. I can remember that Pit-stop A Go-Go out near the raceway used to have a full page advertisement in each issue. But that place converted over and sold furnature in the 1990's for a long time.

This picture is about the only authentic one I've managed to find of a 70s stripper in mid-act - shows how rare it is. It's not in Britain, but at a bar in Lisbon, and the stripper is 'East German' according to the caption. The unlikely source of the pic is a 'Time' magazine of November 1975!

Here's another I found in my files - mid 70s British strip, probably in Tyneside pub/club. Not very good quality but you can see the audience look a bit uninterested and the stripper is wearing huge platform shoes.

She's in a 'touch the toes' pose... which was a common finish to acts with the girl looking through her legs to give a cheeky smile or a sultry look to the audience.

Do you by any chance remember a show broadcast late at night on ITVduring the mid eighties entitled "Stripping - Just Another Job"?
This interesting little show highlighted the then thriving pub/club strip circuit in Geordieland (Newcastle) and featured some rather tasty footage that gave the teenage me serious wank-fodder for a good few weeks afterwards.
Some interesting visual vignettes were included - the scene where an elderly, vampire like 'compere' ritually arse-slaps a a stripper at the beginning of her show and another interesting scene featuring a rather wimply looking male stripper who is rushed whilst fully nude on stage by some young women - one of who succeeded in 'cupping' his genitalia in her hand - yes really (unless my memory is playing me tricks).

Hi Foxbark - I do remember the programme and even displayed my youthful enthusiasm for technology by recording it on cassette. Funnily enough I don't remember the scenes you described ( could it have been a two part documentary?) , but do recall that the venue was the Dunstanburgh Social Club, Newcastle - also that first stripper on was called Lillian Bartram.

This remarkable feat of knowledge is mainly due to the fact that some of the scenes from the documentary are etched on my memory - particularly when Lililian Bartram came on in schoolgirl outfit and lifted her skirt with a hockey stick, and also third stripper who came on in a PVC jacket, then wrapped a snake round her nude body. Probably seeing this documentary made me want to see the real thing as soon as I was old enough..

Hi Foxbark, I've never seen any acts in London pubs, unless you count watching brief appearances in the 'Sweeney' or 'Minder' - all my experiences are of pub strippers 'oop North!', though it's apparent that the pub stripping scene was similar all over the country.

I remember the programme 'Stripers' too. I wish I could see it again. The woman dressed as a schoolgirl who bent over and lifted her skirt with a hockey stick was awesome!

For years I've been lokking for a strip scene that was on 'The Bill' and is really racy-you wouldn't see it on tv now! There are some close ups of her boobs and her bum as she strips. Wow! Not totally sure but the above pic may well be of 'Fiona' - there'd been a change of hair colour to blonde when I saw her do the cigar act (and an earlier act when she did a disappearing act with the belt of a cotton dressing gown!)

I was lucky enough to witness Jo King doing her act on the London pub circuit back in the early 90's (I guess) and got the opportunity to talk to her on a few occasions. A thoroughly pleasant lady.

Her routines were never explicit but they were strip-tease as opposed to dancing or grope/grind.

Very well practiced and choreographed with a different routine for each outfit (my favourite being "The Cleaning Lady" complete with housecoat, headscarf and fag dangling from corner of her mouth and armed with a feather duster).

Each routine was performed with a precision of craftmanship that is sadly lacking in most professions today.

A true entertainer.

An assortment of pub strippers - first pic is of a Liverpool pub stripper in 1985 ( not quite sure if I remember her - I began my pub stripper watching career about 4 years after that ), colour pics from London pub in 90s and final pic is of a Dublin pub stripper).

Very well practiced and choreographed with a different routine for each outfit (my favourite being "The Cleaning Lady" complete with housecoat, headscarf and fag dangling from corner of her mouth and armed with a feather duster).

Each routine was performed with a precision of craftmanship that is sadly lacking in most professions today.

A true entertainer.

As a young kid, I remember watching a series called The Gangsters, set in Birmingham in the 70s. There was a stripper on it called Marie Dali, who came on stage dressed as a huntswoman, with red jacket and hat, and a hobby horse. She was on again in a later episode, singing topless on a swing. Do you by any chance remember a show broadcast late at night on ITVduring the mid eighties entitled "Stripping - Just Another Job"?
This interesting little show highlighted the then thriving pub/club strip circuit in Geordieland (Newcastle) and featured some rather tasty footage that gave the teenage me serious wank-fodder for a good few weeks afterwards..
