Image Grabber II:

Nice free tool to make screenshots from video files and save them as customisable multiple thumbnail previews with file info and timestamps. You also can automate the grabbing of the screens by pressing the little 'Monitor' icon and fill out the number of screens you want.

Example: (plus a screen of the automated grabbing option)

100% clean Freeware
Size: 1MB
Runs on Windows: 98/2000/Me/XP

Basic how to use: (the small ImageVenue preview hanging on to the right is sharper)
Don't make the previews to width/broad otherwise people would have to scroll from left to right to see it complete, about 980 pixels max will make it fit on a 17 inch resolution (1024x768 pixels). Note make your preview 800 pixels max width when you are going to post it as a fullsize preview (so not as clickable thumbnail) in your post.

When done you can add the preview to your post by using a imagehost like ImageVenue (http://imagevenue.com/) look at this post (http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t17010-uploading-and-posting-images-with-imagevenue-.html) how you can post using ImageVenue.

Note that 'ImageGrabber II' can grab from more uncommon file formats and/or files with more uncommon file extexions like .divx with no problems, only thing is that it does not recognise and list it in the files it can open ... when you however, while opening a file, select it to show "All Files" instead of "All Movies" they will get listed and can be opened to make caps of that format.

First off, thanks for the post. I tried it and it works well with some apps. When I try it with VLC I get "this interface is not supported" any suggestions. The vids do not play with media player. Thanks again

Hi moxie, can not realy follow your thought perhaps you can be more specific.

To make screens with Image Grabber II you start the program and then open a media file in Image Grabber II.

When Image Grabber II can not play the format then its likely that you are missing needed codecs, i use it in combination with the freeware codecpack K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

Its a good codec pack with good install/uninstall:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista).
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

Always make a systemrestore point before a codecpack install to be on the safe side.

Does ImageGrabber work with Windows Vista? If not, is there a program out there that does? I've been dying to start contributing here and I've got all my ducks in a row except for this issue. Thank you for your time.

Works for me,although I had to download it a few times before it would work, well worth the effort though.

I can not tell if Image Grabber II runs on Vista but there are a few alternatives:

Media Player Classic (http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t33552-making-screenshotspreviews-with-media-player-classic-mpc-.html)/MPC (http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t33552-making-screenshotspreviews-with-media-player-classic-mpc-.html) (Windows 9x and 2000/XP/Vista).

Another freeware option is Video Thumbnails Maker 2.0.0.0 (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?d=VideoThumbnailsMaker_Setup20.zip) note it requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (Windows 9x and 2000/XP/Vista), also use this older 2.0.0.0 version, the lastest version is still freeware but includes a program logo thumbnail on the previews that only gets removed when you "donate".

There's a Firefox addon called Screengrab.Click and you get the option of saving the whole page, the visible part or a selection as a jpg file.

Hi! I've tried Image Grabber II, but it doesn't work properly on Windows 7. Besides, Media Player Classic Home Cinema doesn't have enough options for customizing screeengrabs. After some research, I found another free program called simply "Image Grabber", different to "Image Grabber II", which works perfectly on Windows 7. It has a very simple interface and it's really easy to use. You can download it here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JMT3U5ZQ) (no password required). The zip file also includes the FFDShow decoder, which allegedly allows the program to work with more video formats. Anyway, the FFDShow decoder is an always welcome improvement for multimedia playback. You can download the latest version here (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/).

Here are the settings that, in my opinion (after many tests), work best to take the most advantage of the screen with a 1600 x 1200 resolution (4:3 aspect ratio):

http://ist1-4.filesor.com/pimpandhost.com/1/_/_/_/1/l/I/F/n/lIFn/Image%20Grabber_0.jpg (http://pimpandhost.com/image/show/id/5176589)

And here's an example after running the program with those settings:

http://ist1-4.filesor.com/pimpandhost.com/1/_/_/_/1/l/I/F/W/lIFW/Baby%20Face%202_0.jpg (http://pimpandhost.com/image/show/id/5176624)

My apologies if this has been posted before (I didn't find it). This is a great solution for Windows 7 users that want to create screen caps with plenty of customization options. Thnaks for reading! :)

Hi! I've tried Image Grabber II, but it doesn't work properly on Windows 7.

The updated .NET versions work just fine on 7, Vista, and XP. Info & downloads are here:

Best to always enable the 'details', that offers important and usefull info. Personaly i also would prefer slightly bigger thumbs as that shows more of what quality a video/film is .

Small note for people that want to try the pogram; no need for the FFDShow decoder when your system has good support for codecs set up.

Just two messages before yours I posted a link to the most
recent version of Image Grabber II.NET, which has a very reliable
batch mode - in addition to working on Windows 7, Vista, and XP.

One more time with the link:

Thanks I know about that what I'm after is the software that "looks" at a movie file and makes up a composite of frames. So one jpeg with lots of grabs.

Recently isn't strange to see films in DVD format (unchanged or edited).
As far as I know, most of the screencapture programs aren't able to make captures of the whole film, so most users makes captures of each VOB file of the film (so if the film has 5 VOB files, they make 5 jpg files).

Media Player Classic (MPC) can make a screencapture of the whole film, but not if you open the DVD or the whole VIDEO_TS folder.
To make a screencapture of the full DVD film open its VTS IFO file with Media Player Classic and then go to File->Save Thumbnails -> specify the settings that appear in the screen. Usually the VTS IFO file of the main features correspond to the biggest VTS VOB file. This trick works in most DVD titles, depending of the structure of the DVD.
At the end you will have a file like the following.
Caps->http://ist1-4.filesor.com/pimpandhost.com/1/_/_/_/1/N/5/n/M/N5nM/Example_0.jpg (http://pimpandhost.com/image/11698766-original.html) <-caps.
Notice that appears the name and the size of the IFO file and the caps of the whole film with the resolution and length of the full film, nevertheless in some cases the length isn't accurate (ie: multiangle) and is better to put the details obtained by other methods (ie: playing the film).

There is a free app in the Mac App store that supposedly does this. Just type in "movie thumbnails" into the search bar and it will appear.
